STORIES FROM THE AMES TRIBUNE, WHICH COVERS IOWA STATE FOOTBALL

1. Iowa State upset Oklahoma State by spending a lot of time in the Cowboys’ backfield – SIXTEEN tackles for loss including SEVEN sacks by SEVEN different players! Kansas’ defense bothered Grier and WVU, too, so that’s a troubling sign.

2. Oklahoma State was below its season average in total offense, rushing offense, passing offense and scoring offense. Grier and WVU cannot let that happen to them in Ames or it will be a devastating loss.

3. True freshman QB Brock Purdy, who played TWO SNAPS in the close game with Akron, was 18 of 23 passing for 318 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in his first significant action. Plus 84 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. So the team that WVU faces is much better than the team that Akron faced. Be forewarned, Mountaineers.

4. Multi-talented Iowa State running back David Montgomery probably will return for the WVU game. He was injured earlier in the season. Purdy and Montgomery means 2 added problems for WVU that other Iowa State opponents didn’t face. Not good news.

Gee thanks for googling Iowa newspapers and reprinting here. Most of us on here don't have that new fangled internet thing or know how to find anything either. Sure glad you are there for us Mr. Obvious.

You're welcome. You'd be surprised how many people do NOT know the information I pass along to them as a service. How is it that it offends you?

Anyway, enough with the pissing match. Let's talk WVU football. THAT was the point of my post.

I'll be you grab candy out of your grandchildren's hand and gobble it up yourself in front of them and the cackle evilly.

For shame.

Captain Obvious to you, by the way.

You have to be one of the biggest weirdos I have met on here.

You obviously are not a sportswriter.
Give it up. You have the prose of a University of Phoenix graduate.
Not just that you write in big red letters.

Someone who saw their work in newspapers for 40 years wouldnt be so insecure.

Just give it up. No reason to live a fantasy.

You can be a journalist here. The journalist of the people.
Just take out the oversize red letters. Whenever I see them it doesn't make me want to read your nonsense.

Anyone who judges people or font because of color is not the kind of person I want in my life. Feel free to Ignore me. It's the words that count, man, and the character, not the color of a person or a font.

Cuyahoga is legit...obviously, you haven't lived long enough to know the man and his journalistic skills. If he chooses to use this forum to ink red, blue, black, purple, what is the problem?

Disagree, yes, but to question the legitimacy of a man whose journalism career spanned probably two of your lifetimes is more than insulting. Personally, you made me see more than red.

Deputy Dog, you remind me of a bully who gleefully would push an old lady over the cliff.

Take it to the bank...the man and journalism are tied at the hip. His allegiance to anything WVU is an attribute you probably will never realize. You can only hope to attain his status.

Too, he proudly is an alumnus of West Virginia University.

Gee thanks for googling Iowa newspapers and reprinting here. Most of us on here don't have that new fangled internet thing or know how to find anything either. Sure glad you are there for us Mr. Obvious.

All he did was provide pieces from a newspaper that people otherwise wouldn't have seen unless specifically looking for the topic.

Well there is where we disagree. He is a blowhard, a braggart, a poor writer, a cut and paste specialist, goofy, truth stretcher, a wanna be, self important, headline seeking, fraud and tool. Get it now?

So . . . anybody want to talk about the upcoming WVU/Iowa State game? I'm looking forward to this night game. We have much to work on and the Cyclones victory over Okie State should provide enough motivation to get our guys' attention.

Maybe you need to learn how to use the "ignore" feature if you don't like his posts, instead of resorting to personal attacks. CFE has probably attended more Mountaineer games than you ever will in your lifetime, and although his red text is annoying, he's just here for the same reason the rest of us are.

No, if we did, folks would bitch about it. Oh wait.....too late.

Nah....Root would rather follow him around on the board complaining about him.

Flattery will get you nowhere.

When you want information about WVU football from a professional expert, get back to me. Till then, feel free to put me on ignore. It will raise the average IQ of those who read my posts.

@Cuyahoga Falls Eers I don't always agree with your opinions but I do think your one of the better posters here. Keep up what your doing.
Thanks. I appreciate it.

I've been retired 22 years but I just can't turn off my "sportswriter brain." I feel compelled to study statistics, play by play and see if there are angles that those on this board might appreciate. I mean no harm. I just don't want my brain to rust out so I keep using it for the common good. My mother taught me to help others. Our entire family has been doing that for 80 years, and not just in sports. It's in our DNA. And it doesn't matter whether you agree with me or not. We just want to exchange information about our beloved Mountaineers.

If you disagree that is fine. No need to get personal. If you think what you think, don't open his threads and make stupid comments that make you look ignorant.

Mr FakeSportsWriter made it personal a while back. Now he whines. He has a right to post what he wants. So do I. Get it now?

So . . . how about that freshman QB at Iowa State? Kids was a baller last week - hope Gibson handles him in Ames.

Chris from WV...Purdy had game...318 yards, four touchdowns and one interception on 18-for-23 passing — along with 84 rushing yards with a score . He is also mobile. That said with pressure he is still a freshman.

His attendance at games is not the issue. And I doubt that he has btw. But again....that isn't the issue.

Season football tickets for 22 seasons, since the day I retired at Television Editor of the Akron Beacon Journal. $1,000 bet that I'm right. You willing to take that bet? The WVU AD records will prove it. Put up or shut up.
