Watched this game today. I bet he wasn't in formation but 20% of the plays. He returned punts, but was a non-factor in the offensive scheme of things. Instead, they used Watkins, Cupp, and Woods.

Bust along with Kevin and Stedman
Bust along with Kevin and Stedman
If Stedman is considered a bust, it is not because of his football exploits. How many people do you know that survived a gunshot to the head--is that a bust? And before anyone says it, I do not consider Stedman Bailey to be the AntiChrist.
Tavon didnt put in the work to improve his game. As a pure athlete he is remarkable, but route running was his weakness and he still looks like a rookie that cannot produce anything unless he the ball is forced his way either via screen, short cross, or direct handoff. The Rams were willing to give him those touches for many years under Fisher, but a new coaching staff doesnt owe him that, and if it werent for his unwarranted contract extension last year he probably would not be on the team or even in the league.
Football contracts are not guaranteed. So, if the Rams wanted to part ways with Tavon, they would only owe him what they had promised to him as "guaranteed" in his new contract extension.
I still think he is being underused with the Rams. They suck........
Tavon Austin is a great player and is not being used. Why? I don't know. You don't either. Warez
WV didn't have any trouble using Tavon to team success. WarezProbably because they have tried to use him for many years in the past and it has not been a winning formula
That's harsh. Tavon is being misused. He was the best player I've seen in my nearly 70 years of watching WVU football in being elusive. His left/right, stop/go was incredible! The 50-49 Oklahoma game was a perfect exhibition of that. On one play, one Sooner defender fell down from Tavon's fake and the other one just stood that and watched Tavon blur by because, as my son-in-law said, "He didn't want to look foolish, too."A top 10 pick who isn't remotely a pro bowler

Neither did Major Harris. But I'm with Tehas Fan on this one. I think Tavon isn't being used properly. He has the talent to compete in the NFL. So did Geno Smith.Lol at comparing college vs. NFL. Pat White was probably our best QB in school history and he played what, 1 series of regular season football before getting knocked out? The two games are not even in the same stratosphere, there is so much more to the NFL than being a great athlete.

To say the Rams didnt use Tavon properly or that they are not giving him a proper chance is beyond ignorant. Tavon has either never put in the work to become a strong route runner like other undersized slot receivers, or he just doesnt possess the skill set. Despite never developing that skill the Rams still force fed Tavon a lot of balls any way, and outside of the occassional highlight, he largely didnt do much with his opportunities and the Rams were never rewarded for giving him those touches on the scoreboard in any type of meaningful way. I would actually say if anything the Rams have gone out on an unusually long limb for Tavon, most players that are not QBs do not get the type of leash Tavon has been allowed regardless of draft position.
You are joking. Right? I am an insider with regard to the Rams and can tell you that Tavon was never force fed anything. Tavon was a man among boys in college and is a great athlete amongst the pros. I would like to see Tavon traded to a team that can 'see' his assets and will use them! Warez
Lmao, what other team runs the ball to their slot receiver trying to force him into touches? You are out of your mind

Biggest eye roll I can give. So any Mountaineer that doesn't find success in the NFL is being misused? Righhtt.Neither did Major Harris. But I'm with Tehas Fan on this one. I think Tavon isn't being used properly. He has the talent to compete in the NFL. So did Geno Smith.

The Rams have 4-5 other receivers that are better than Tavon unfortunately. He's too small.
Living in LA. Right now the other receiviers fit the new coach's mold better than Tavon. He's too small for that system. He will most likely be released after this season when his guarantee period expires.
With his blazing speed, it is a shame he isn't playing slot n return man. A guy with his wheels could make a good 3rd down specialist, but I doubt he could take many hits.

As for Geno, he is a million dollar talent, with a 2 cent brain.
One thing you can't take away from Tavon ... ever! He was the best in my lifetime at WVU at elusiveness. His left/right, stop/go moves were incredible. Just ask the Oklahoma defense that gave up about a zillion yards to him in that 50-49 incredible performance in Mountaineer Field. Sooners fell out of their jockstraps trying to keep up with his moves. Others just stared, as if in a trance, while Tavon was a blur passing them by. That was the most incredible one-player performance I've ever seen in my 70 years of following the Mountaineers!

Tavon has 1,649 receiving and 1,001 rushing yards with the Rams. That’s 2,650 yards of offense.
He also has returned kickoffs for 451 yards, averaging 18 yards per return.
He has returned punts for 1,336 yards.
Those are hardly the numbers of a “bust.”
He has $28.5 million in guaranteed money so he can cry all the way to the bank. If he's wise with his money he'll never run out and he certainly has far, far more money than any of us who are not named Gov. Jim Justice.
Former WVU players are making $51 million in the NFL this year. That’s an incentive for other high school stars to come to WVU.

A multi-millionaire "bust." He can buy a dozen of us and have change left over so I don't think we'll need a pity party for Tavon. And NOTHING will take away from Tavon being the most elusive ballcarrier in WVU history. Nothing!A top 10 pick who isn't remotely a pro bowler

I would LOVE to be a $28.5 million "bust." I'd be set for life. So it Tavon. Good for him! He's a Mountaineer and I refuse to call him a "bust." The only Mountaineer I will call a bust is Sam Huff, because I petted his bust at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, down the road from where I live. And he's still an NFL bust
Austin has the same CAREER receiving yards after 4 seasons as most WRs who are drafted as high as he was get in one season....
He has as much rushing yards for his CAREER as most RBs drafted as high as he was get in one season.
His numbers ARE those of a bust
