On the heels of hundreds of campus job cuts, West Virginia University senior administrators were recently quietly asked to volunteer for a 10% reduction in salary.
WVU President E. Gordon Gee announced on Monday that the majority of university leaders took the suggested pay cut.
Many are paid six-figure salaries.
“That has taken place, and we will keep that in place until the university rights itself financially. So, I appreciate that,” Gee said Monday during a Faculty Senate meeting in Morgantown.
The state’s largest university has received national scrutiny for leaders’ decision to cut hundreds of faculty and staff jobs along with getting rid of 28 academic programs. While Gee has stressed there is no financial crisis, WVU leaders have pointed to a $45 million deficit as they’ve made swift decisions this year about the university’s future.
More is on the story.
