Pens -- OCT 2021

Actually, I mislead you......here is the excerpt from the Kingerski piece (info which, BTW, applies to today 10/28)

Crosby participated in the team’s optional morning skate — and then some — Thursday morning at the arena.
Crosby and fellow injured top-liner Bryan Rust had what appeared to be a strenuous workout on the ice before the morning skate. After that, Rust retreated to the locker room while Crosby remained on the bench as the Zambonis cleaned the ice ahead of the team’s optional morning skate, then joined 12 teammates for the skate.

I took that to mean that neither Sid nor Rusty participated in the "daily practice". Of course, there's no formal practice on Gameday; just an optional skate (which Sid took, but Rusty didn't). In other words, I read something that absolutely wasn't there.

Glad you called me on this, I2.......
they gotta get sid and carter back in the lineup. absolutely putrid effort on offense, sure they generated a lot of shots but almost 0 traffic and a horrible display of shooting.

they said he took full practice with the team yesterday. wtf? with all the misinformation around this?
First, looks like the holiday is officially over.......Guins have a lot of shots, but nothing to show for it.

Meanwhile, here is an excerpt from the Kingerski piece which applies to todays (THU 10/28) work;

Something in that excerpt apparently told me that neither Sid nor Rusty skated in this morning's practice. Of course, there is no formal practice on Gameday.; only an optional skate. And there's obviously no mention whatsoever about a "practice".

Obviously, I can't read.......I'm glad you called me on this I2 (because it required me to re-read the piece, and get it right).

most of the time you are right on the money. that's why I was so confused here.

Changing off the struggling Guins for a moment, the Black Hawks abuse story is obviously the biggest thing in the game right now.

The abuser's identity has been well publicized, and I read this morning that Black Hawks prez Rocky Wirtz wants the guy's name removed from the Stanley Cup. Which seems like a reasonable response to yours truly. But if the transgression is indeed as severe as it's being portrayed, I'm wondering why (or if) the names Bowman, Cheveldayoff (presumably), and Quenneville will be removed as well. From what I can tell, the answer......thus far, at least.....is NO.

I admit I've got more important things happening in my life; and for that reason, I'm perfectly content to sit back and let the world make its own assessment regarding the associated people, and the Black Hawks franchise in general. But getting rid of only the transgressor's name from the Cup......while allowing the key enablers' names to remain......strikes me as a job only partially done.

I had to drag myself out to Buffalo Wild Wings in Caps territory to watch this game. Wish I could bootleg a stream of AT&T for all Pens fans stuck here.

Life’s been good. No lie, the divorce knocked me out for awhile. Been enjoying watching my son and his love for hockey grow at age 7. We will be your way on Thursday as we are watching them play the Flyers.

How about your side?

been a long time since the pens have been in last place.

depressing

Agreed, but imagine how the NYI feel sharing that same spot with the Guins.......though I think most would expect them to start turning things around sooner rather than later. But even with Sid back in the lineup, I'm not sure we Guins fans can be as confident after Saturday night (which admittedly is only one game).

Anyway, it looks like your boy Kapanen (and Jake to a somewhat lesser extent) is in the shit-house and has become the media's target for what ails them. You know he's only got one point in 8 games (no goals), and has been dropped to the 4th line; and even Sully is griping about his consistency. I don't get the impression he's been especially dogged for sheer lack of effort, but he's evidently just not doing much of anything to break out of his doldrums (including using his head).

From what I can tell, questions are already being asked about his upcoming RFA contract renegotiations (though maybe November remains a little too early to be worrying about that). But Kingerski compared him this morning to Kessel, and not the 30-35 goal scorer.

Trying to decide if it's good they're off until Thursday; and better yet, have the Cryers coming in. Also, it's interesting to read media thoughts as to how badly they need your other guy (Letang) back in the lineup, especially on the PP.

kapanen seems to not care. they probably couldn't get much for him. Lets see if he can play he way out of this funk or maybe a solid benching will help him mentally. we shouldn't discount what playing with geno does for him.

letang has been an amazing player his entire career when he stays within himself. trouble is that hasn't always happened. but earlier this year it sure has been.

I'm not willing to bail on this team after a tough run and one game back with sid. lets see how they respond. they responded well adversity once already this season. I bet they can do it again.

Nothing in that post I can disagree with......unless he quits going full speed, my personal position is they need to keep running KK out there regardless with whom he's playing. Aside the Leafs game, I haven't seen much of them the past 2 weeks; so I don't know if he's gripping the stick. But IMO, he's not the kind of kid who this team can afford to sit.

Maybe putting him out there with Boyle can spark something......

Fun times at the game. My son, who is now 2-0 when in attendance, was given a game puck by either a coach or a training staff member before the start. Jake, my sons fav player, scores a goal, getting us half priced Jake Shakes today, and @Irwineer2 boy scores the game winner in OT.

I was expecting to be embarrassed, so the 2 points was a pleasant outcome. You just knew the blue line error was coming deep into the 3rd. It had that feel. Then you had the perfect recipe of Letang and Matheson together. I give Tanger a pass because if he had Covid for any severity, his lungs may not be at capacity. Whatever “pass”/decision Matheson was thinking, well no further comment.

Jake should pick up my sons his tab. In the 2 games, he has accounted for 4 points, the big one being against Columbus and getting the hat trick.

If we lived closer, we would be there more. The 3 hours one way, while not bad, makes it tough sledding considering life obligations.

I suspect it's happened more times than I can possibly imagine, but I'm honestly not sure I myself have ever personally heard of an instance where a team wasted a hat trick.

No score after 1, then get outscored 4-0 in the 2nd.....happily, I didn't see it, but this has GOT to be one of the worst periods this team has played in a pretty long time.

so the pens are being sold to fenway sports group. mario will retain minor interest.

perhaps now they will trade lestink and malkin

also when this sale goes through, the city of pittsburgh and yinzers everywhere better throw a few back and thank 66.

number 1 sports legend in this town. rename whatever the fvck he wants after him.

DK reporting the sale could be worth as much as $900 million......well north of the estimated $700 million market value of the franchise.

The team has obviously solicited (or at least acknowledged interest from) potential buyers at other times in the past. Personally, I always figured it was Burkle (primarily) who was the leader in this attempt to sell/get out. But DK is saying this morning he actually MIGHT maintain at least SOME interest......though from a distance, I myself find that extremely unlikely.

I just can't envision this billionaire being told (by another billionaire) how his interests are being managed.

who knows how it shakes out but I believe in 66. He could have sold a dozen times or more by now.

66 doesn't take a bad step.
