Santorum is wrong. This is exactly what should be happening. Referendum votes on the issues. The state’s people made the decision. Average people want access to abortion. Average people want recreational marijuana.

Roe being knocked down was the right decision. Pushing it to the individual states to decide what they want is the correct path. Pro-lifers were delusional to believe they were the plurality.

Unfortunately the evangelicals of the party won't understand this and will end up costing some states dearly. Virginia is a good example of where putting abortion on the forefront of discussion cost them the House.

You can't enact change for the better if you don't win, and you won't win on some of those issues.
