NCAA Grants Grier Eligibility for Season Opener

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 20, 2017) – West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen has announced that redshirt junior quarterback Will Grier has been cleared by the NCAA to begin playing at the start of the 2017 season.

“We are pleased that Will has been cleared to play in our season opener by the NCAA,” Holgorsen said. “Since he enrolled here last year, he’s done everything he is supposed to do. He has been an outstanding teammate and leader on and off the field. Now that this decision is behind him, Will can turn his attention and preparation for the upcoming season.”

Grier played in six games and started five for Florida in 2015, before sitting out the rest of the season. He completed 106-of-151 passes for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had a season-high 283 yards against Tennessee and threw for 200 or more yards in three games, 250 or more in two games and completed multiple touchdowns in four games.

Grier was named Mr. Football USA, Parade National Player of the Year, Maxwell Player of the Year and Tom Lemming Offensive Player of the Year coming out of Davidson Day School in 2014. He also was a 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection. For his career, he threw for 14,565 yards and a state record 195 touchdowns.

Vernon,
Any coincidence that this information just happened to be released on West Virginia Day? Seems like we may have known for longer but waited to make a splash.

Swing and a long drive to straight away center and Grier is cleared.
