Message from Neal Brown

That's very distasteful and disturbing. But there are no laws that say these type of billboards messages can't be put up.

I suppose Neal or the school could threaten to sue but that really wouldn't help defuse the situation.
No, they can't.

It's someone(s) first amendment right to free speech (one could also claim petition also).

You are right, though. Nothing legally that can be done and not very tasteful but everyone has a right to speak their mind, tasteless or not.

the game day is only expensive if you can't stop feeding your fat face long enough to watch a football game..I ate at a tailgate before the game never during it..at halftime was for the restroom and watch the band

I eat nothing but whole food so I would not know about what they serve for food there but I know what I paid for my Penn State tickets. Even Baylor was pretty damn expensive considering how bad we suck.

Couz has a good take on the situation that I happen to agree with. Also he said that he heard that jimbo said he would coach wvu for less than Brown makes. I have no idea if it's true but if it is, it's a good conversation topic.

The WVU AD has to look at the situation in its entirety.

First and foremost, is there an improvement out there that could take the reigns? Not a guess, speculation, or hopeful thought but a known coach who can step in immediately and improve the situation. That means x's and o's, assistants, recruiting, the whole gamut.

If not, keep him until there is.

Second, there has to be a cost analysis with regards to keeping versus firing him. Say famous coach A states he will come, but at a cost tag of 10 million per year? Sorry, can't afford that even though he's definitely an upgrade. However, keeping Brown costs X amount of season ticket holders and donor money. Suppose WVU keeps him and by the halfway point next year and WVU is 2-4 or 3-3 and the stadium is only half full. What's that going to cost?

Lots to consider.

As much as we want him gone, the AD can't just jump the shark - that could potentially put us in worse position in years to come.

This message board is mild compared to what I see on the more popular social media platforms. I live in Morgantown and know a lot of Die Hard fans and they're all done with Neil brown. I don't know a single person outside of you and the other two on here who actually support this guy. I know a 76 year old woman who is DieHard WVU and she even understands that he needs to be fired because he simply not up to West Virginia University standards. You're actually in the minority and the people who want to keep Neil Brown because he's a nice guy are just making the situation worse and are probably even more responsible for this humiliation that he's going to have to go through
That's interesting because out of the people I have talked to about Brown, many still like him as the head coach. Others don't really have a strong opinion either way and basically assume the administration will make a change if they feel it is needed. Otherwise, they still support and cheer on the team like true fans are supposed to do. I haven't heard anybody calling for him to be fired except on here.

they never sold single Penn St tickets..either had to have a mini-package or season tickets

I live in Morgantown and have heard a lot of people calling for his firing for the last 3 years.

you really don't know how this works..next years budget is already in place..you are no CPA and that is for sure

What does that have to do with the fact that if they keep Neal, they will lose more ticket sales than ever next season? They could easily lose 3-5 million per home game.

Then there’s a major fiscal management problem. You’re telling me WVU isn’t better than 12th out of the 16 teams of the Big12? WVU athletic department is only better than 4 other Big12 programs? I call BS.
you didn't read the letter did you?...House v NCAA is addressed..we have to come up with an unexpected 20 to 22 million for revenue sharing with the athletes.

are you really attempting to argue and act like WVU is the only school that has to disperse 20-22 million in revenue sharing to their athletes? Every P4 school has to do that

The people who support Brown because he's a nice guy are the ones responsible for his downfall and the humiliation that he is starting to receive, and that will sadly only get worse. Brown should have been let go two years ago but because of a bunch of weak ass fans who want some kind of "nice guy" wokie because they were offended by Rich Rod and Dana, are the only reason he wasn't fired after year 3. The guy is terrible at coaching and now his family has to suffer something they shouldn't have because of a bunch of dumbasses who don't care about winning.

These Billboards are on you, oceantide83 and GVA. The future humiliation he and his family are going to have to feel is on you guys. A lot of us didn't want it to come to this and knew it would the longer we kept him. He's a nice guy and doesn't deserve this. He should have been let down easy when it became clear he was in over his head years ago.

those billboards are hideous, childish, toxic, and totally worthless..just like the fans who paid for them. You'd have to be a space monkey to think these have any influence...just like all of those political signs..who makes a decision based on a sign?

The Billboards are definitely pretty bad. They will have an influence however. But the thing is, they're a result of people like you who were afraid to let Neil go when it became clear that he wasn't a good coach and that he was only just a nice guy. When you prioritize being a nice guy over winning, you lose the fan base. This is what has happened to brown. Too many WVU staff and fans gave him way too long of a leash just because he's a nice guy and now his family has to suffer the bullshit consequences.

some of the same fans who say college football has been ruined by the transfer portal and NIL want a new coach for a ruined sport..maybe those billboard hero's can form a union. They can collect dues and raise the 11 million it will take for the buyout of N Brown and the staff...don't forget the staff...they get paid too...it's pretty clear that a portion of WVU fans seem to have a symbiotic relationship with irrationality

They can sue for verbal abuse. Verbal assault is a crime, typically categorized as a misdemeanor, with fines and potential jail time for the offender.

I don't know a fan who is not upset about the transfer portal and the nil. So apparently because of that we're supposed to just settle with a below average coach? The transfer portal, the nil and all of it is ruining college sports. So is the gender bullshit. But that doesn't mean that people don't still love their teams and want the best for them. If you wanted the best for West Virginia University you would want a better Coach than Neil Brown. But you don't care about that for whatever reason. Brown is a nice guy so WVU has to suffer in your opinion

Obviously those Billboards are having an influence considering they just came out of the blue and fired the defensive coordinator. So does that make you a space monkey for calling that one dead wrong like you do everything else? I wouldn't consider you a space monkey. You're just wrong about Neil Brown and all of this other stuff but things will improve. It is what it is.

Yep the sacrificial lamb. Honestly I didn't expect any of this to happen but if someone told me they were going to let someone go I would have guessed the secondary coach. Those Billboards are definitely having an impact. For him to fire Jordan his good buddy. Neil Brown is feeling the pressure more than he has ever felt it in his life

Leslie wasn’t performing, but let’s not pretend he’s been here all 6 years. The failure is on Brown and the AD. This change won’t change the trajectory.

well, let's see, you said you didn't care about college sports anymore because of those things...(sigh) do I need to prove it to you once again?

You are right this definitely won't change the trajectory. This is just a response to those Billboards because he's embarrassed and sadly he should be. It just should not have ever come to this.

Well let's see.... I don't..... except for WVU which I said way back then. I used to watch games all day and I don't anymore. WVU was always my team but I loved college football but it's just not the same and I only pay attention to WVU now except for whatever's in headlines and trending. I just don't sit around watching games like I used to. College sports is not the same but that doesn't change the fact that I grew up in Morgantown and went to WVU and so did everyone in my family and I love WVU Sports lol. I know it's hard for you to grasp that reality and you search really hard to try to catch me in so-called lies and all this stuff. I can't imagine having time on my hands to search through posts like you do. If you were confident in your opinion you wouldn't act this way. You're just wrong about all of this crap. It's okay though things will improve once the inevitable happens.
