James Franklin vs top 10 teams

That may be, but his overall PSU record is 101-42.

I'd take it.

4-20 isn't a good record, but an overwhelming majority of coaches have a poor record against top 10 competition. WVU was 12-70 against top 10 teams at one point.

The difference is WVU isn’t close to top 10 in talent. Basically Franklin gets paid a lot of money to recruit and beat teams who don’t have as much talent, but when the playing field is even he loses literally almost every time. It seems the only times he wins are the equivalent of a blind squirrel finding a nut once in awhile. Given what PSU has in NIL budget they can probably do better than Franklin.

How many of those 70 were against top 10 Pitt and PSU? 60 plus?

PSU is ranked in top 10 and still can't beat them.

I don't know the answer. I'd say the Canes probably were some of them, with the majority being Penn State. For Franklin's 20, probably half of those are Ohio State and Michigan.

WVU 1-9 vs Miami when they were ranked top 10. (3-17 all time vs Miami).

1-17 against PSU when ranked top 10 (9-50-2 all time)

1-5-1 against Pitt when the ranked top 10 would have figured that would be more. (41-63-3 all time vs Pitt.)

That's 3-31-1 against those 3.

Of course PSU can do better than Franklin. They should be with Ohio State and Michigan every single year. While they are good, they’re always a slight notch below Ohio State and Michigan. They beat everyone but those 2.
