the next Kansas in a reconstituted Big 12? Are we heading towards being the last team mentioned in recap stories about the conference? It sure feels like it...a team that annually gets less out of more.

This is an absolutely horrendous time to have a cupcake coach with the Big-12 going through a massive overhaul. When this happened in 2003, WVU stepped and grab the flag. Now we are turning the corner in the Rutgers bus. We must ditch Brown no matter how much it cost, because in the long run that is the most cost effective path.the next Kansas in a reconstituted Big 12? It is possible. BECAUSE Brown won't change anythingthe next Kansas in a reconstituted Big 12? Are we heading towards being the last team mentioned in recap stories about the conference? It sure feels like it...a team that annually gets less out of more.
What do you mean by "Neal wont do what needs done to make that happen"?I think that Greene or Marchiol will be an upgrade over Doege. Our recruiting obviously stepped up as well. This will be a better team. It just won't ever be a great team because Neal won't do what needs done to make that happen.
Shut your crackhead ass up and get a jobWhy not give him 20 years? Patience is for losers.
I promise I read at least 20% of this post. What do you mean by "Neal wont do what needs done to make that happen"?
People fail to realize or understand the realistic time table for improving recruiting, roster talent, player development + growth, player experience, & scheme adaptation.
The process to make such dramatic changes+improvements is a 5-9 YEAR process... Look at Clemson & Dabo as example.
When Dabo was hired as HC, Clemson was already recruiting in the top 25 consistently(Far better positioned then WVU when NB was hired, and better positioned for recruiting too(easier)). Dabo didnt win his first major bowl game until his 5th year(without his second year being shortened from covid). Dabo didnt win his first Championship until his 9th year. Keep in mind Clemson is easier to recruit than WVU, and the talent on the team was far superior then what Neal was given, which was one of the worst WVU rosters in the past 20+ years. So the WVU talent was deviated, thus the magnitude of change required to win was deviated. Clemson also plays in the ACC in a time where the conference was not nearly as good as it has been historically, allowing for an easier path to New Years 6 bowls, playoffs, etc.
If you look at the WVU roster now, with regard to historical recruiting rankings, WVU would rank in the 60s-70s, after you consider the newer transfer rankings. A staff can outperform relative to roster talent, just as a staff can under-perform relative to roster talent. Considering what NB has been able to do thus far, this staff is certainly outperforming, esp considering his 2nd year was shortened due to covid.
We have to be realistic when it comes to WVU and our expectations, particularly when it comes to seeing progress. Building a program practically from scratch is not something that happens quickly, not at a non blueblood program like WVU with many disadvantages.
Not every starting point is the same, the level of change needed matters when determining an appropriate amount of time to see the team meet/exceed historical expectations. Also, the talent & experience on a roster in many ways determines what schemes & concepts one can deploy, and with WVU still having certain limitations in that area, these things will resolve in time as Brown is given enough time to fill out the team with his recruits, and get them developed + experienced. As WVU has always been a development program. Meaning, we dont recruit 4-5 star players who play as Freshmen and leave for the draft early. We recruit at a lower level, but allow them to mature, grow, learn, and gain live experience to be impactful as Juniors & Seniors. Historically that is when WVU has been great.... When a significant % of starters are upperclassmen. I mean, look at our OL, they are mostly True Freshmen to RedShirt Sophomores...
We need a coach who knows how to leverage every facet to gain an edge, one who knows how to mitigate our disadvantages. As long as we are patient, and dont allow our emotions to disrupt logical thinking, Brown will lead us to where we want to be as a program. Also, when that time comes, we still need to apply realistic expectations. What is a realistic goal for WVU, under the right HC & Staff?
UP Years = 10 Wins+ Conference Championship Appearance + Major Bowl Win
Down Years = 8-9 Wins (Which is 1-2 games higher then our historical average) + Bowl Win
We as fans & supporters need to do our part to ensure our University has the resources to hire the best staff & offer the best facilities + equipment possible. We need to have a strong SM presence that will help players monetize NIL opportunities. We need our boosters & business owners to support through NIL... We as fans need to Donate to the MAC, go to games, so when a top recruit visits they see our passion and how we support our players. When they post an offer from WVU, they experience fan engagement. We as fans can also make an impact on the trajectory & consistency of our program.
