It shows how clueless these guys really are. Do they not realize he was going to be fired at the end of next season? His horrid recruiting of HS kids has left our cupboard bare. He's been patching holes through transfers year after year, which unfortunately always leaves you a bad year away from a depleted roster and a 5-7 season.

And that's how he left us. (Wise move on his part. The sky was about to fall.)

The sad thing is a lot of his cronies will not put two and two together and even when it becomes obvious how thin we are this fall, they will think it somehow wasn't Dana's fault.

Nationally he is viewed as a good coach who did a good job at tough place to win.

WVU in the B12 is viewed as a handicap job.

Fake news won’t report and tell you he was going to get fired at WVU, was hated at WVU and the fans thought he sucked. He was enemy #1 in WV. A terrible coach. A blind man could win 7-8 games a year at WVU.

I get it. He’s leaving a Big 12 school for a AAC school, it’s usually the other way around. It looks bad from the outside, our best season since joining the 12, and our coach leaves.

I also get the point that we weren’t laying down the cash to get Dana to stay, and do it seems obvious that we were going to move on from him next season.

I’m happy we are looking for a new coach, I’m happy we are receiving $1m instead of dishing out $6m to Dana. As long as Lyons makes the right hire, this turns into a major win for us.

Who cares what the media thinks, IF we get the right guy. We f this up? And the programs going to struggle for a long time.

I think this post is pretty foolish, in several ways

They only take a PC position.

They can't bite the hand that feeds them. For sports reporters that means the possibility of a coach or the AD cutting off their access to the team if the questions get too pointed or the reporter is getting too pushy. If you don't have access, you can't work.

“Journalists” are almost uniformly lazy, uniniformed hacks parroting whatever they’ve heard somewhere else. And the worst of the lot are sportswriters, the true bottom feeders at any news organization.

He’s just a terrible head coach who fooled Luck by hiding behind great offensive head coaches like Mike Leach and Mike Gundy where he had stops where he inherited a pro QB. Dana was never a offensive mastermind. That was all Lucks bad thinking and bad hire. Luck wanted to fire him after 3 years but couldn’t cause he gave him a guaranteed deal where WVU would eat huge $ millions. Lyons got stuck with him. Not anymore. Big win for Lyons and WVU.

Houston you got a bum coach. Oh well U of Houston is small time loser program anyway.

I am now officially convinced you are 12.

Either 12 or a pants shitter. Voicing one's opinion on a coach's ability is one thing. Calling somebody a coke head should be grounds for slander. Cant believe this place permits that type of nonsense. Stick to shouting out WV kids...at least that gets comical.

Shannon Dawson. Remember Dana buddy? I’ll let you guess. Lol....most of you don’t know much. Dana was a slime ball. Gee and Lyons couldn’t wait to get him out of here.

This is so true. Those who can do. Those who can't cover sports.

I'm not sure why anyone would think WVU is a tough place to win. Every coach save for cignetti in the past 50 years has won here. Big 12 schedule is no tougher than the original big east or our independent schedule. I'm not disagreeing that some have that perception, but it's inaccurate. It probably has more to do with the perception of west virginia being a shithole state.

You come off as ignorant not seeing the other side of National perception. You keep saying Dana was gonna be fried like it’s fact. Maybe I missed it but little online rumor mill posting doesn’t make firing discussion so. Nationally it’s a bad look losing your coach to a non P5. Just because you post stuff that doesn’t make it true.

How often did we win BIG, besides for in the diluted Big East?

A few times.

Sure but almost every coach has won here and had ranked teams. It's not like we're Rutgers, Temple, etc.

Well our coach who has won an Orange Bowl and had a 10 win season 2 years ago, and an 8 win season this year (despite having a whole game cancelled) is leaving for a new job because he was going to get fired.

Obviously, you need to do more than just not be Rutgers or Temple, now.

We don’t know that he was going to be fired after next year. What we do know is Dana asked for a larger commitment right now than WVU was willing to provide. Both played their trump card. Time will tell who won or lost. Dana landed on his feet at a G-5 school, but let’s be clear, it appears no P-5 schools even sniffed his way. WVU gets a chance to hire a coach who will consistently get them to a higher level, or make a mistake that could take years to recover from. Hopefully Dana gets UH many 10-2 seasons, but they will not make the final four, and WVU wins some B12 championships and get some shots at the final 4.

Dana's best Big 12 season was 10-2 with Skylar Howard. We actually ran the ball that year and had a good defense.
To me Dana had really good offense throughout his tenure unless you could get a pass rush on his teams. Defense killed him except for 2016. If he would have had a decent D this year we would have won 10 and he probably would have gotten the deal he wanted.

The fact that Dana was interested in the Texas Tech job and didn't even get a sniff tells us a lot.

I herd it was "off field character issues"...

Maybe alcohol was a factor ? Hanging around bars and casinos ? "Single Man's Life" ?

Good "Luck" attracting a decent HC. You screw this up and in 5 years you'll end up in the AAC after the TV Deals reset....

Yeup.

Not in my opinion.

They clearly wanted to move towards a new system. There's very little separating Dana and KK.

Besides, Tech isnt naive. They know Dana is Leach's pal, they arent hiring a close friend of the guy who they tried to ruin.
