WVSPORTS.COM Huggins: 'We don't guard'

Why is it the university pays its head coaches millions to make excuses? Been a huge Huggs fan but...who was it that recruited these guys who can't defend? Who is coaching these guys to defend? Who decides who plays? IT is the same thing on the football side. Tired of f...ing excuses. Too many headline readers on the team.

Huggs recruited these guys. You can see they lack talent and ability. It’s easy to see. He needs to recruit more in state talent. His out of state recruits struggle far too often at this level.

WV doesn’t produce a lot of the power forwards/centers 4-5 positions but WV does produce guards and wings.

I really don't like disparaging players, but there is a reason few had many impressive recruiting offers. Some players have grown and flourished, others reached their potential of serviceable players who you cannot count on to make a basket.

If you want some players who can dominate a game offensively, the answer is pretty simple. These 4* recruits will not play for a coach who speaks to them like trash, runs six-hour practices, and is more known for his harsh treatment of players and trashcans on standby for vomiting. The blunt truth is the reasons our current players are here is not bc of WVU's name and certainly not bc of Huggins (they are here in spite of him). They came here simply bc WVU was the biggest name offer.

You want legit next-level talent on the team every year? Sorry to bear the bad news, but the first step is a new HC. No blue chip will subject themselves to treatment Huggins doles out on his players. And why the hell should they? None of us here would tolerate that treatment from our bosses.

Thanks to moving into the Big East over 20 years ago and thanks to Belien WVU had become a more consistent legit top 15 program that made elite 8 and sweet 16 and even won the NIT. At least we won the damn NIT even though we want better. Still the NCAA tourney became the normal season and Huggs inherited a gem of a program that Belien improved. Huggs directed a final 4 appearance and has continued the good program for some years as well but we can do better without him with a younger better offensive coach.

WVU has been a ranked top 15 program the last 15 years basically. We’re a respected basketball school with a great fan base and legendary players like Jerry West illustrating our history. We are a winner in college basketball in a great powerhouse conference like the Big 12. WVU doesn’t need Huggins to stay relevant. We are a winning, highly recognized program at the highest level of college basketball. Huggs is getting old and I think good scorers don’t want to play for him. The word is out and it’s hurting us. His current roster is full of D2 talent. It’s sad he has failed coaching and recruiting offense this bad, but even more pathetic is the current team can’t defend either. Jevon and Sags are the only 2 talented top level players on roster. That’s not enough. Time for Bob to think about retiring. I think it may be good for he and WVU. He should then be working in the athletic department in some capacity.

Two weeks ago, most of you were dusting off his seat at the Hall of Fame, and now you're looking for a new coach? Teams go through a funk from time to time. Relax. March Madness is still more than a month away. WVU plays a style that's hard to prepare for in a tournament environment. What you're seeing now are teams that are used to playing against WVU, with time to prepare for them.

You are crazy.......My evidence of you spewing on because of your hatred of Bob Huggins????? Tom Izzo? How many 4-5* recruits go there? And if you think Huggs is "disparaging" to his players, has 6-hour practices (which is crazy because it's not allowed), then evidently you've never seen a MSU game.

And you must think basketball is just an easy game, nobody runs, nobody trains, nobody gets screamed at, nobody vomits in trashcans, etc etc etc.

Bodhi, what has happened to you?

The voice of reason.

What has happened to most of you guys is simply this......YOU are embarrassed! Why? Because you went around your workplace and friends boasting about WVU being #2 in the nation......and being "Kings of the Big 12".......then we hit a funk, and people are laughing at you now and you are embarrassed.

WV was never a #2 team and all the fans knew it. Matter of fact, they are not even a Top 25 team. Yes, If their shots drop they can be giant killers but, in truth, their shots drop in only about 1 game in 5 if the opponent is respectable. It is true that they can beat up on the weaklings of the roundball world.
