This is just another example of why.

Nothing but coming up short for a decade after making a Final Four.

Recruiting miss after recruiting miss.

Running off talent.

Not having a clue how to coach offense.

You guys keep chugging that third round exit kool aid without burping, I'll be wishing for the return of a coach like Beilein.

And yet STILL ranked in top 15. Imagine that.

I'm not saying that he needs fired or "encouraged" to retire, but I do have a high enough opinion of WVU that it can attract good coaches. Many on this board are prostrated before Huggins, believing he's a savior from on high, and after him, no one could dream of matching his greatness at WVU.

And in before all the toadies chime in with his career wins...I don't care. Wins at Walsh and Cinci don't mean sh1t now. And if we're honest, a lot of those early wins were sort of from a stacked deck. Kinda like if some mediocre coach at Duquesne or High Point took every 5-star recruit who didn't academically qualify (or otherwise had their offer revoked for petty crimes, etc) for UNC, Duke, KU, Nova. That's a lot of talent and a lot of wins. You don't need to be a prodigy to rack up wins when you're playing with black sheep 4 stars against 2 stars.

And for the Brad Howe's of the world...."uhhh, Huggs has 900 wins, he knows what he's doing."

Maybe, maybe not. Let's say he did know what he was doing in 1998. Has the game and players changed since then? Should WVU hire Tom Osborne to coach our football team and use the vaunted I-formation option? After all, he won a ton of games that way.

It's like saying an orthopedic surgeon was great in 2000...but hasn't stayed up to date on advancements in treatment for 20 years.

Put the pipe down.

Lest people forget, Beilein wasn't run off but instead ditched WVU when something he liked better came along. There's not a lot of great coaches that want to come to WVU and stay there. AFAIC Huggins can coach as long as he wants. If I thought there were coaches out there as good or better than Huggins that weren't going to use WVU as a stepping stone then I'd feel differently.

Shut up Bucky.
Stick to trolling Neal Brown

What is up with these asshat trolsl pining over coaches who left WVU on their own. By the way Beilen made the NCAA twice in 5 years, did not recruit Ebanks, Truck or Jones, and was unable to develope Joe Alexander. Huggs has made the tourney 10 out of 13 seasons ( would have been in last year). I will take a coach who makes the tourney 76% of the time verses 40% of the time.

If WVUs philosophy really is just " no matter what you do, stay as long as you like", then success is never coming to WVU.

At some point he will have to be replaced.

It is a d@mn shame that he is choosing to be another Bobby Knight before the end of his career.

For all my criticisms of Huggins, I can at least commend him for providing his beloved alma mater and penurious adopted home state with the "family" discount for his coaching services.

Oh, what's that? WVU pays him more than MSU pays Izzo, UVA Bennett, and KU Self? Well shit...

What I don't like is WVU's brightest stars inexplicably leaving the team just as they're about to explode onto the national scene. First Konate, now Oscar.

Konate started to become a bigger star for WVU basketball than Huggins. Fans loved him. People would stand in anticipation hoping the B12's best players were daring enough to try to take it to the rim on him and the roof would blow off the Colesium when he stuffed it back in their face. National commentators couldn't stop talking about him during the games. HE was the draw. Oscar was approaching that level last year.

WVU hasn't really had fanfare type basketball players. Not Pittsnogle. Not Carter. Not Butler. Not Jones. Joe was the closet for that last 1/4 of the season. But when we have, both were ran out of town. I thinking there might be a trend.

Ok..... The trip to the ER in the off season didn’t help matters with Huggs... few in the ”know” know....

You are a fool. Did JC leave? Go flog your dong while looking at your sisters picture.

McBride is the fan favorite. Way beyond Oscar.

It disturbs me that posters that call themselves WVU fans feel like this. We are very fortunate to have Huggins as our coach. Enjoy the future HOF while he is here....
Oscar self -distucted in the off season. The truth is out there, you won’t here it from Huggs. If you know someone on the team they might disclose what actually took place in the off season, now that Oscar is gone..

I never post, as you will find in my profile. This one “is not” on Huggs. It will eventually come out. If you go back and read my original post you will know that there was a trip to the ER. The players and people close know what happened, I’m not going to go into detail. This is all on Oscar. Huggs has put enough out there to let people know that Oscars off season was not good and it’s an understatement...

The only thing one can pull from that is Oscar didn't visit someone in the hospital.

If that's even close to being right, and that's the reason why this thing imploded, then there's a much bigger dumpster fire going on behind the curtain than anyone can imagine.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Here are the top 10 highest-paid coaches in college basketball this season, including athletically related income from sources outside the school:

John Calipari, Kentucky: $8,158,000

Mike Krzyzewski, Duke: $7,256,924

Mick Cronin, UCLA: $5,500,000, including a $2 million signing bonus

Rick Barnes, Tennessee: $4,700,000

Chris Beard, Texas Tech: $4,430,000

Jay Wright, Villanova: $4,410,304

Tom Izzo, Michigan State: $4,191,070

Roy Williams, North Carolina: $4,102,409

Chris Mack, Louisville: $4,067,494

Bill Self, Kansas: $3,985,857

Don't see Huggins listed do you?

This thread is another example of why a free forum should not exist.

Total compensation has Self making slightly more than Huggins. WVU pays Huggins more than KU pays Self. And if you would have on more scroll down that list you would have seen Huggins sitting at 11 for overall earnings for college basketball coaches. Unfortunately for him, donors associated with WVU cannot essentially double his salary "off the books." But the University certainly does its share.

Let's not let bad faith, intellectual dishonesty get in the way of your agenda.

This is precisely why I don’t post. No dumpster fire and far from it!!
Just an HOF coach respected by all of his peers and so so many more. But not respected or appreciated by very few. It’s flabbergasting, really.
I posted what I came here for, take it for what it’s worth.

It's only a few peons here that think they know whats what and post out of frustration because they didn't get their monthly porn magazine. I have lobbied for this free forum style to disappear like so many other college message boards have done.

Ahhh, to think that paying seven bucks a month for board "privileges", a closet full of Wal-Mart WVU shirts, and a faded number 10 Jersey makes a 50 year old man feel like he's sitting in the room with Gee and Lyons.
