Donaldson will be lucky if he’s Ohio States version of Rudy and hoping to dress each week.

I thought Oliver Luck got us in the Big 12 through his connections.
^^This^^^

Oliver Luck influence is greatly unappreciated or understood in WV. Without him, we’re probably still in the AAC. Maybe the ACC finally comes calling, hard to say. And before anyone piles on, yes, I agree Nehlen, Rod, Lewis, Etc all played a part in shaping our history that sold it

He got us in the door. He also asked Don Nehlen to speak to the conference commissioner on WVU behalf and why they would fit into Big 12. Then our politicians got involved when OU wanted to back door us with Louisville.

Yes, many will not like this truth, but Joe Manchin played a significant role. Mitch McConnell was working hard to get the Big12 to reconsider Louisville over WVU and Manchin stepped up. Many people played a role. We should all be thankful.

Disagree with this statement. Don Nehlen had more to do getting WVU in Big 12. As well as Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey closed the deal with Orange Bowl thrashing of Clemson.

Rod better be winning year 1.

Yes Don did lay the ground work and really put the stability into the program. Rich took it to a higher level though at a time when we needed it becsuee the big east was raided. It's hard to give him more credit than Don strictly becsuse Don stayed a long time and didn't hurt anyone on the way out. If Rich didn't leave the way he did, he would get way more praise for his accomplishments here. He came at a needed time and gave WVU its most exciting football ever. I don't know if he can do all of that again but if he can get us winning 8 to 10 games per year in a pretty weak B12, then there you go.

The fact that wvu had just won 3 bcs bowl games had no factor in it at all. It was all one man, Oliver luck. Not.... it was the success we had achieved under Rich that made WVU a household name over that time. Oliver had the right connections but WVU was an easy sell back then. We wouldn't be now though.

I will take that further and say our failures since Rich Rod have been a big let down to the B12 overall. They didn't bring in the Neal Brown version WVU team who is a whipping post in theB12. They brought in a team who it looked like would instantly be right behind Texas and Oklahoma in the fooballverse. A team coming off the rich rod years with BCS trophies in the case. That is who they thought they were getting with us and we have failed. Right now, the B12 really needs WVU to actually become the team they thought they were getting when they brought us in.
