Didn't we beat Texas, at Texas, in our B12 debut in front of the largest crowd to ever attend a game there...? I also think we beat Texas this year.....

Also, ask Oklahoma about the Fiesta Bowl.....LOL. See we have beaten several storied programs in the last 10 years, all in sold out stadiums (I know you have a hard time understanding that concept). . Georgia and Clemson also come to mind. All conference champions. pitt....not so much. LOL.

Another silly statement as others have pointed out. Maybe in the horse & buggy days rivals were restricted by distance, but today the power conferences stretch from Nebraska to New Jersey, Missouri to Florida, Miami to Boston, and yes Texas to West Virginia. It is amazing how WVU can fly to Austin TX quicker than Pitt can bus people to Blacksburg Virginia.

Call the games whatever you like, but playing Texas and Oklahoma in football trumps any other game WVU can schedule. Just sayin.

I think you should ask ND and USC about that. Or even ND and BC, if you prefer an east coast flavor. I think all parties would say these are rivalry games that are hundreds / thousand miles apart.

Rivalries are built, not "scheduled " and we still need time to build them in the B12. But for my view Texas and KSU are becoming those type of games.

I don't really care if we ever play pitt again, but I'm looking forward to VT.

Please keep ND and WVU out of the same sentence. That's not fair to ND. Start naming rivalries folks. Some of you dummies will notice that most have one thing in common. Please don't make me list the known rivalries to easily prove my point. I'll get you started. USC/UCLA, Stanford/Califoria, Washington/Washington St, Utah/BYU out west. Miami/Florida St, Florida/Florida St, Goergia/Goergia Tech, S.Carolina/Clemson just to name a few down south. Hmmm....oh...Ohio St/Michigan, Michigan/Michigan St over in the Midwest. Let see......oh Iowa/Iowa St, Texas/Oklahoma, Oklahoma/ Oklahoma St, WVU/.......crap now what? Pitt, PSU and WVU have sadly missed the point about the importance of a true geographic rivalry game. Pitt is all there is for WVU and PSU because Pittsburgh falls right in the middle. The only other option for WVU is Virginia Tech. Why won't they do an annual game with WVU? PSU has no other options besides Pitt. That crew denies the need as well. WVU wouldnt be a bad annual game for PSU but they have no one in the Big10 if they were honest with themselves. Pitt is the team for both in football and basketball. Some of you clowns argue just for the sake of it. This isn't earth shattering info I just provided you.

If we took a poll of fans of each of the schools in the B12 and ask them who are your school's three biggest rivals do you think WVU would show up on any one's top 3?

Notre Dame has a true National Fan Base. They have a crowd no matter where they play. I think you will begin to see our fans on the road dwindle with each succeeding trip into the midwest.

When WVU was playing all those lowly Big East programs, if we didn't bring the fans, the stadiums were half empty. The nice thing about being in the Big 12 is that every school (except Kansas) has a lot of fan support and fill up their own stadiums. That is the way it should be in a power conference.

With most of our away games now on TV, the road crowds would be dwindling even if those games were in the Northeast.

This specific complaint has been made hundreds of times since we changed leagues. Shouldn't people be compensating for the loss of close road games by going to more home games since those are now the closest option? Yet home attendance is mostly flat. It's hard for me to have much sympathy for your position when fans aren't backing it up with actions.

Instead we have our made for TV schedule...with games against teams in places most of us have never visited..

What's wrong with games in places most of us have never visited? Nobody cared when we scheduled Auburn and LSU; everyone was thrilled at the chance to visit a couple of storied programs.

I never would've had a reason to visit Oklahoma, Kansas, or Iowa. Now we do. Checking out other parts of the US is fascinating. What the heck is fun about yet ANOTHER trip to Pittsburgh or the DC area? There are many interesting and beautiful places in the world beyond range of the proverbial six pack and tank of gas.

A valid point about home attendance being flat (actually down) but not so valid about visiting new places.

I'm fairly well traveled but still have a lot of places I want to visit. However, among places I have never had a burning desire to see are Ames, Stillwater, Manhattan, Lubbock, Waco, Norman and Lawrence. I feel safe in saying the only reason I would ever visit those places would be for a game. Austin is literally the only place in the league that is interesting to me and I've been there (Go, if you get the chance).

Some of our former opponents in the BE of potential ones in the ACC are also in less than thrilling locales but that's where being convenient comes into play. A trip halfway across the country to a podunk college town is much more of an ordeal than a drive to a school in any of the surrounding states or NC.

We can be honest and realistic about what would have been best for the program and still glad to be in the Big 12. It's unquestionably only the 4th best of the Power 5 for us, but we weren't doing the selecting and should be at the very least relieved it picked us.
