Big 12 Payout Announced at $30.7 Million Per Team

Let's assume WVU's payout is way more than any team in the ACC. It is still a losing proposition when you consider the travel expenses for all sports. This is why you won't see East Coast teams jumping to a West Coast conferences and Vice Versa. The best thing for West Virginia would be for the Big 12 to implode. They would then end up in the SEC with lower travel costs and a higher payout.
The last I checked, several Midwest, West, South, North, and East schools jumped to join CUSA and the AAC for 2-4 million a year or less. I'm sure several would do the same for 30+ million a year in the Big 12.

Pitt would cream themselves for our balance sheet. We are spending like drunken sailors on our atheltic infrastructure and that was on 85% payout and still were 4mm in the black in 2015. We now are on 100% payout plus the conference is increasing it by 20%. The disparities between our atheltic complexes will be eye popping.
My point isn't really to put WVU down. I just think the Big 12 was a great life line for you guys. However, as an observer who really doesn't care where you end up. I think I would be hoping for a Big 12 implosion. Just about every article I've read says if that were to happen WVU ends up in the SEC. Who wouldn't want that?

Link those articles.

I'd bet we'd take a step down and be in the ACC.

Per Fox Sports when comparing actual conference payouts,WVU is third to the Big and SEC.
And you think trips to FL for Northern ACC teams are that much less expensive than travel for WVU to Big 12 schools? That does not include the Tier 3 money.

But even if the on-field action doesn't go to plan, there's still at least one guarantee from the new event -- cash. Bowlsby said Friday that revenue from the game could approach $30 million annually, or nearly $3 million per school. Given Friday's other big news that the league's revenue distribution spiked 20 percent this year to an average of $30.4 million per school, suddenly concerns of the conference falling drastically behind the SEC ($32.7 million last year) and Big Ten ($32.4 million) should quiet.
Mind you, those two leagues' numbers will only keep escalating, but the Big 12 can take comfort that it at least remains ahead of the Pac-12 ($25.1M) and ACC ($24M-$27.6M).

I still wonder, what the hell was Colorado thinking?

It should be obvious that from financial considerations, we are in the best conference short of the BIG or SEC. A total payout of approximately $37m for 2015 is huge considering what could have been. We should count our blessings. Thanks Ollie.

More important to WVU fans, WVU never got more than $9.9 million from its annual Big East payouts. Now the Big 12 and IMF 3rd tier are nearly $40 million. Tremendous financial boost to my alma mater.

It's a good feeling, isn't it? Our second year in the Big 10, we got more than we ever got from the Big East. And we don't get full payouts until 2021.

50% of the jump in B12 money this season is because of the Sugar Bowl. We get 40 million when we play there. Last year we only got 6 million for Baylor in the Cotton Bowl. The Sugar Bowl was a semi-final. Every year the Sugar Bowl is a Semi-Final game the money for the Big 12 will take a 3.4 million drop. However the next time that happens will be the first year of the Championship Game so it will not drop that much for 2017-18.

I would love to see conference breakdowns that include the conference payouts AND the 3rd tier rights money for every Power-5 team. That's the only way to separate the apples from the oranges and really know the $$$ rankings, and just how far apart they are or aren't. I've Googled around but haven't found an authentic site that does just that.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but it's a least a start. It's 3 years old, and some of the contracts are no longer in existence (like Florida's), but it gives you a rough idea of what some of these schools can make off of their Tier 3 content. http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2013/07/rutgers_img_college_football_media_rights.html

We don't cheat well enough to be in the SEC! I think culturallly it is a fit, but so is the Big XII. Every school (except Baylor)is a state school or has the name of a state in it. It's the best conference schedule ever imo. I love the Big XII.

I agree the Big 12 is a nice place to be. I just don't know which schools to 'hate' yet unless it's Texas and Oklahoma. I hate too admit it, but I'm beginning to lose my loathing for Pitt. I never thought I would say that!

You would think that is obvious but at least one person on this board does not get it

*START SPECIAL NOTE*

You are now scheduled for a blood letting in which your blue blood will be drained and your old gold heart will be reposed, you have been demoted to a green skin and the land of Marshall for your blaspheming.

*END SPECIAL NOTE*

Just wait until they are back on the schedule, the hate will come back with no problems.

Thanks. It's a start toward getting apples and apples.

VALUE PER YEAR Ohio State, $11 mil
Florida, $10 mil
Nebraska, $8.65 mil
Tennessee, $8.34 mil
Connecticut, $8 mil
Michigan, $7.1 mil
Oregon, $6.71 mil
West Virginia, $6.6 mil
RUTGERS, $5.9 mil
Cincinnati, $2.5 mil

And if WVU's total is more like $7 million, that puts us in the same neighborhood as Michigan, Oregon and Rutgers and WAY ahead of Cincinnati. Oliver Luck did a good negotiating job. No wonder John Raese threw such a hissyfit with his good ol' boy sweetheart deal a thing of the past, at WVU's expense.

Yep. Speaks VERY WELL to the "brand" that WVU has built down through the years............particularly since The Don came to Motown in 1980.......... As Vernon has pointed out numerous times, many key WVU folks have contributed to the current stature of the athletic department. Some folks did more than others, but, plenty of people had a hand in putting us into a position where we are able to negotiate what is a VERY competitive Tier 3 number............ And, quite frankly, we're competing against many schools that have been garnering huge conference money and TV exposure for a lot longer than WVU has. All this bodes very well for the future. As "Sota" has said many times, "Good times"!!!!!!

WVU is in pretty good company. Now if they could start winning again...
Michael, you mailed it. WVU is making almost as much from the T3 as they made from the BIG EAST. Addind a small 30m on top of that isn't too shabby. If WVU gets football act together, it will be the best times ever for the university
