The last I checked, several Midwest, West, South, North, and East schools jumped to join CUSA and the AAC for 2-4 million a year or less. I'm sure several would do the same for 30+ million a year in the Big 12.

My point isn't really to put WVU down. I just think the Big 12 was a great life line for you guys. However, as an observer who really doesn't care where you end up. I think I would be hoping for a Big 12 implosion. Just about every article I've read says if that were to happen WVU ends up in the SEC. Who wouldn't want that?
Actually I think the bulk is radio and digital. Tier 3 only gives one televised football game and some basketball games.
Per Fox Sports when comparing actual conference payouts,WVU is third to the Big and SEC.
And you think trips to FL for Northern ACC teams are that much less expensive than travel for WVU to Big 12 schools? That does not include the Tier 3 money.

Given Friday's other big news that the league's revenue distribution spiked 20 percent this year to an average of $30.4 million per school, suddenly concerns of the conference falling drastically behind the SEC ($32.7 million last year) and Big Ten ($32.4 million) should quiet.
Mind you, those two leagues' numbers will only keep escalating, but the Big 12 can take comfort that it at least remains ahead of the Pac-12 ($25.1M) and ACC ($24M-$27.6M).

It should be obvious that from financial considerations, we are in the best conference short of the BIG or SEC. A total payout of approximately $37m for 2015 is huge considering what could have been. We should count our blessings. Thanks Ollie.
It's a good feeling, isn't it? Our second year in the Big 10, we got more than we ever got from the Big East. And we don't get full payouts until 2021.
50% of the jump in B12 money this season is because of the Sugar Bowl. We get 40 million when we play there. Last year we only got 6 million for Baylor in the Cotton Bowl. The Sugar Bowl was a semi-final. Every year the Sugar Bowl is a Semi-Final game the money for the Big 12 will take a 3.4 million drop. However the next time that happens will be the first year of the Championship Game so it will not drop that much for 2017-18.
I would love to see conference breakdowns that include the conference payouts AND the 3rd tier rights money for every Power-5 team. That's the only way to separate the apples from the oranges and really know the $$$ rankings, and just how far apart they are or aren't. I've Googled around but haven't found an authentic site that does just that.

We don't cheat well enough to be in the SEC! I think culturallly it is a fit, but so is the Big XII. Every school (except Baylor)is a state school or has the name of a state in it. It's the best conference schedule ever imo. I love the Big XII.
I agree the Big 12 is a nice place to be. I just don't know which schools to 'hate' yet unless it's Texas and Oklahoma. I hate too admit it, but I'm beginning to lose my loathing for Pitt. I never thought I would say that!

Yep. Speaks VERY WELL to the "brand" that WVU has built down through the years............particularly since The Don came to Motown in 1980.......... As Vernon has pointed out numerous times, many key WVU folks have contributed to the current stature of the athletic department. Some folks did more than others, but, plenty of people had a hand in putting us into a position where we are able to negotiate what is a VERY competitive Tier 3 number............ And, quite frankly, we're competing against many schools that have been garnering huge conference money and TV exposure for a lot longer than WVU has. All this bodes very well for the future. As "Sota" has said many times, "Good times"!!!!!!

Michael, you mailed it. WVU is making almost as much from the T3 as they made from the BIG EAST. Addind a small 30m on top of that isn't too shabby. If WVU gets football act together, it will be the best times ever for the university
