UConn easily handled 8-2 St. Bonaventure today, 74-64, making WVU’s upset of #15 UConn look better and better.

Also, Oklahoma upset #12 Arkansas, 88-66, today.

And #8 Kansas steamrollered Missouri, 102-65.

In the latest national rankings, Baylor is #2, Texas #7, Kansas #8, Iowa State #17.

That gives WVU EIGHT games against Top 25 teams in the Big 12 plus the UConn upset. NINE games against Top 25 teams. Not exactly a creampuff schedule, eh?

WVU will resume its one-loss season at 4 p.m. Sunday against visiting Kent State at 4 p.m. on ESPN2.

This part of the schedule is mostly scrimmage/teaching games with the occasional U Conn as a mid semester test. The real season starts against the Big 12. The finals are the NCAA Tournament.

I know it's a long way till March Madness but I am encouraged by early signs from WVU and the Big 12. Four in the Top 25, a number that will hold steady even if the names of the schools change. That's 1/6th the total of teams in the Top 25! By only 10 schools.

11 Big East schools. 14 in Big 10. 8 in Ivy League. 12 in Pac-12. 14 in Southeastern Conference. 15 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. That only leaves 21 spots for the 64 schools in these conferences, plus better teams like Gonzaga in lower conferences.

Big 12: 4 for 10. 40% All else: 21 for 64. 32.8%
