I asked this question yesterday to @Vernon and @Keenan Cummings if there was an analysis of the incoming transfers compared to the 2025 recruiting class or an easy way to get the info. I was told no by V and he was correct, it's a bit of a struggle to mine the data. So this morning with a couple of cups of Sunday morning coffee for fuel, I decided to take a shot at it.
Let me preface that this is not to cast doubt on the transfer class, the coaching staff, or anybody else. I just wondered how our "organically grown" - for lack of a better term- recruiting class compares. That class is currently ranked 47th by Rivals, so there is a judgment that can be made.
WVU’S 2025 Recruiting Class (22) is ranked nationally as 47th currently by Rivals based on their scoring system. The class total point value is 1470, or 66.8 points average per player which would rank each player in the 5.5-5.6 range. The Star Ranking is 2.77 average. The highest ranked player is S. Fox-QB-4*/5.8/105 and the lowest ranked player is B. Homady-OL-2*/5.3/30 and T.Russell-ATH-2*/5.3/30.
WVU’S Transfer Portal class (24) has a total of 1170 points or a 48.75 point average per player which would rank each player in the 5.4-5.5 range. The Star Ranking is 2.04 average. The highest ranked player is A. Woods-LB-4*/5.8/105 and the lowest ranked player is C. Wilson-LB-2*/5.3/30. There are also 7 players in this group with NR by Rivals, which brings the numbers down considerably. I'm sure that if these players were to be ranked it would change these numbers dramatically.
So the 2025 Recruiting Class wins the day over the 2025 Transfer Portal Class, but really only due to the large number of NR players. I'll also check to see if there is a way to slot the TP class nationally.
Like I said, don't take anything as ill will in this, it's just numbers.
