Did Iowa State play in a bowl game last year? or the year before that? or the year before that?

I'm not a huge Dana fan and I recognize he does have some faults, like losing a couple of games last year that we should have won, K-State being one of them. But at this point, it would be ridiculous to get rid of him. I think we've had 3 first rounders drafted in the NFL the last four years so we are recruiting the talent needed. Gibson has done an amazing job with this defense this year (as well as last year). We have a very good QB that will be eligible and ready to play next year. Up to this point, Dana has flopped at recruiting a good QB but I think he has learned from his mistake. You can't put any blame on Dana for the missed chipshot FG yesterday nor our offense fumbling at their one yard line. That takes 10 points off the board.

I think it's time to change your tampon.

No, what's funny is how when there's a loss (and there's been more than there should be in his 6 years) that he NEVERS gets the blame from you guys. There is always a fumble, an INT, or anything that pushes the blame to the players. Yet, when the team wins, you guys want to automatically give the credit to the head coach.

Fact is we are 4-0 and I'm excited. Howard has shown a lot of progression and Gibson/White/Shorts/Durante could be the best 4 WR group in CFB by the end of the year. Tony Gibson is the best assistant coach in America....hands down. And thus far, Dana has not done anything major that resulted in a loss. We've had some close calls, but 4-0 is as good as anyone could be at this point.

Dana needed more oversight when first hired, he was allowed to hire buddies and put together one of the most inept defensive staffs ever.

Ollie rectified that a little before he left. I now think Dana has grown into a pretty good coach, I think he still made a mistake not giving Lonnie the bump in pay and title he wanted in OC but he has a pretty good staff and replaced two good coaches from last year with decent hires.

I think he has grown into a decent coach and he's still on the rise. It would be nuts not to give him a chance with Will Grier with this WR core and Crawford coming back next year.

what do you recommend he do to make himself an above-average coach and be specific? If you were the athletic director and was writing his annual evaluation what would you write as a plan of action to elevate him to your expectation?

And what you may recommend, has he already tried what you'd suggest?

WVU was very fortunate to win on Saturday - how many unlikely 4th downs did those final drives require? I forget..but they made some adjustments on both sides of the ball (particularly on offense, where they finally decided to help their OTs) and didn't panic. You might not have seen that in years past. Sometimes it was as though Dana felt like if he didn't score 40 points, the entire game was a failure. Saturday, 17 was a smashing success. Doubt WVU lines up against a better defense than that all year, so this was a very good thing.

Look, I have been openly critical of Dana Holgorsen in the past, and I may be in the future, but doing so now when we are 4-0 makes you look ridiculous. Am I suspect that this continues? Dana is growing as a HC , recruiting has improved greatly, and the program is healthier than it has been for some years. So, why not just shut up about wanting to bring in a C level replacement and allow this process to continue? Admit to yourself that you really do not have all the answers.
