WVU 76, Texas Tech 61
Stevenson, Toussard and Wilson were the Terrific Triumvirate with FIFTY THREE points in rescuing WVU from a terrible 1st half of trailing TT till Erik came off the bench again. They almost out-scored TT alone. Rest of WVU team had 23 points.
Stevenson, terrible with shots at 3-12, made 9 of 11 free throws, co-led team (with Okonkwo) in rebounds with 10, including 6 on defense that prevented TT from scoring on those possessions, credited with 4 assists but I saw more than that, directed offensive traffic as a coach on the floor.
WVU trailed in 1st half till Stevenson bench rest ended, made 4 free throws at 4:26 (personal TT foul, TT technical foul) to put WVU ahead for the first time.
Erik made outstanding pass to Keddy for a 3-pointer, got a defensive rebound, then an offensive rebound, another defensive rebound to put WVU up, 33-28, at half, rescuing team from mishandling ball and defensive inadequacies.
Toussard led scoring with 22, Erik 2nd with his 16, Seth Wilson had 15, all of 3’s, shot NO free throws in a game that had FORTY EIGHT personal fouls called but NO ONE fouled out!
That trio saved our bacon despite a shoddy first half. Toussand’s 12-14 and Eric’s 9-11 accounted for 21-25 in free throws. Rest of team went 7-10, because Okonkwo was 3-3, Wague 2-2 and Keady 1-1. Only Bell, as usual, had trouble with free throws (1-4), missing more free throws than anyone on the team.
In terrible 1st half WVU missed all 5 shots before Matthews layup at 15:44 scored first Mountaineer points of the game. Texas Tech went up 8-0 while WVU was bobbling passes, fumbling the ball away, just incompetent.
