Did an install at a Pitt alum (and walkon) home yesterday.

He was pretty dismissive of WVU. Likes Pitt by a few scores,?? Likes their qb and the DoucheNuzzy. Says DoucheNuzzy is good after a loss. He doesn’t like cignetti and said he just calls go route after go route.

I reminded him they needed a gift from the Gods and a 4th and inches bail out to sneak by last year. Didn’t matter all that much. It’s like WVU is beneath them.

The importance of this game tomorrow vs. Pitt....

cannot be overstated.

Game 1 at Penn State - we all kinda knew that was an uphill battle. We were playing with house money. And, for a long time, that game was breaking our way. The Nittany Lion fans I encountered at the half were nervous. But, as it tends to happen in that series, Penn State's depth and talent wore us down...and an all-timer play call gaffe didn't help.

Game 2 vs. Duquesne - we did what we had to do after a slow start. Nothing more to be said.

So, we don't know who we really are after two games. We have a clue, but we don't know for certain. We're all about to find out Saturday night. All the bitching and moaning about Neal Brown is put aside at the moment, because we all truly have one thing in common - we just want to win. Plain & simple. Let's start stacking wins. No more pick-6's. No more losses in Lubbock. No more blown leads down the stretch in the Phog. No more embarrassment from our head coaches, plural. Just.....win. And, start stacking them. We've done it before. Let's do it again.

Tomorrow is a fork in the road. It's one for WVU, it's definitely one for Neal Brown. I've said for a long time that the season comes down to Pitt and Texas Tech. But, I fear the response if we drop this one to the kittens tomorrow. This is big. This is a game which can propel the program forward, or cause the program to be torn into warring factions.

And, this is Pitt. This is our rival. There's a raging river of history, both good and bad, undercutting this game tomorrow. As a youngster I was told by Don Nehlen that in order for WVU to gain national respect, we had to beat two teams; Pitt and Penn State. There's a lot of truth there. That is why when Jeff Hostetler crossed the goalline on that bootleg, and fell to one knee, index finger pointing to the blue sky...it ignited the WVU program. Willie D. housed a punt the following year and WVU pummeled Pitt in their home stadium to prove the point -- this WVU program had arrived. Major dismantled a 10th-ranked Pitt team on their home turf in '88 a week after Pitt had demolished Ohio State in Columbus. Amos Zereoue kicked off his career in style in our last ever game on that awful field. Marc Bulger dropped 104 points on the Panthers over his final two years, and Pat White dropped 90 on them in his first two years before...

It's a rivalry boiling over with hatred. It's about recruiting turf battles, the Beast of the East, national respect, the ACC vs. the team the ACC did not see fit to invite.

And, in 2023, it's about WVU's reversal of fortune. We've been stuck in a quagmire of mediocrity, as Beck would say: "Kill the headlights and put it in neutral". Well, tomorrow, we need to downshift into overdrive. We need to give our program and fanbase a shot in the arm. We need to give our fans the chance to sing a well-lubed Country Roads under the lights at Mountaineer field in front of the team, in front of a national audience, in front of all of the ghosts that still adorn that turf we call home. We need to give our 2023 team the chance to face Texas Tech in Morgantown next week with the chance to get to 3-1 and to once again became a team worthy of some buzz. Some respect.

Make no mistake, fellow Mountaineers, we have a football program which has the potential to win at the highest level and sustain that success. We are just awaiting that moment where we win again, gather some steam, and begin to pile up victories to once again - gain momentum - growing like a breeze.

So, to those of you going in, don't hold back. For Mountaineer Nation - for one more day tomorrow, let the memories of Eastern football glory gather - the battles of the past between these two old rivals, renewed, and it feels bigger than ever.

SIAP: Letter From BOG

The BOG is taking a lot of heat for extending Gee. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

An Open Letter to the People of West Virginia
This week marks a pivotal moment in the history of West Virginia University. On Friday, September 15, the West Virginia University Board of Governors will vote on the final recommendations from the Academic Program Portfolio Review Process.
In recent weeks, there have been extensive media coverage and public comments around this process. Throughout, we have been committed to a process that is transparent and engaging of our University family, and we have appreciated the input from faculty, staff, students, alumni and the broader community.

The world around us—and West Virginia—is quickly changing. As we carry out our leadership role, we will continue to listen and respond in a way that is respectful and work to make West Virginia University even stronger than it is today. In doing so, we believe this effort will embolden our University as a modern flagship, land-grant R1 university.

West Virginia University is the same University you know and love – and we will continue to provide a high-quality education that provides both academic and personal growth for our students. In doing so, our goal is to create a more focused academic portfolio aligned with student demand, career opportunities and market trends. This process, known as Academic Transformation, will strategically position the University for greater success and relevancy in the future.

It is our responsibility to provide accurate information about what is being proposed in terms of program reductions. To be clear, our 2023 undergraduate enrollment on the Morgantown campus is 18,077. Of the program reductions being proposed, less than 1% of the undergraduate enrollment are in those majors (91 students with a single major; 57 students with a dual major). On the graduate student level, our 2023 enrollment on the Morgantown campus is 5,541 students. Of the program reductions being proposed, 238 graduate students are enrolled in those programs. The University will work with all students to complete their degree or find another academic path within the University to meet academic goals.

We also want to emphasize that we are not facing a budget crisis. Instead, the University is dealing with a $45 million structural budget shortfall that represents 3.75% of the overall budget. The University must prioritize resources to those areas that can provide for growth.

As a premier R1 research university, we will continue to do incredible work across all disciplines and be a leader in energy, the humanities, business, the arts, cybersecurity, forensic science and more. And the University will continue to maintain a strong liberal arts curriculum. West Virginia University is NOT eviscerating, gutting or decimating the University or higher education. Such hyperbole is irresponsible and harmful.

West Virginia University will continue to offer more than 300 majors, maintain a low tuition that is below the national average (right now, a WVU degree costs 29% less than the average 4-year school, according to College Scorecard), and provide support resources to help students graduate with degrees that are rewarding and prepare them for the world that awaits.

We have forever changed the arc of health care in West Virginia. Our medical center has grown to become a 24-member hospital system across the state. Our centers in neuroscience, heart and vascular, and cancer are world class, and we opened a state-of-the-art Children’s Hospital so that no child in West Virginia must leave the state for lifesaving, critical health care. Just like no West Virginia student will need to leave the state for a high-quality, affordable and life-changing education.
West Virginia University is a success story thanks to so many. Let’s keep moving forward.

We welcome your insights and thoughts as we move forward in this journey. Please reach out to us at transformation@mail.wvu.edu.
