Classic Rich

In 2005 the lights went out or partially out and there was a long delay. This story was posted on the Cincy board.

“Butch would tell a story about how Dantonio and Rich Rod met on the field to discuss if they should keep playing.

Dantonio was not keen on continuing to play because he worried they couldn't pick up the ball in the air in the dim light. Rich Rod said, don't worry about it because we aren't gonna throw in in these conditions. First play after that, WVU threw a big bomb for a completion(TD?) and according to Butch, Dantonio lost his sh*t on the sideline.”

Current College Bowl Projections for WVU

It's a little bit crazy and some of these will be updated later this week, but I thought even a small ray of sunshine might improve a victory as sour as last night's.

Rest of Season Prediction

What’s your prediction for the rest of the season? How does it compare with your preseason expectations?

I had us at 6 wins but I also had the Pitt game as a win. I think we lose this weekend and that will be the low point. I think we will go on to win 3 of the next 6, perhaps even 4 of the next 6 to finish with my preseason prediction or perhaps even exceed those expectations.

Will 6-6 or 7-5 be enough considering the three teams that beat us are currently undefeated? If we finish 4 and 1 post K State, can we hang our hat on momentum for next year or is it more of the same of false hope (ie last years schedule and subsequent record)? Does the bowl game matchup/outcome matter?

Assistant coach contracts

@Keenan Cummings

This quote is from an article you wrote in July.

“The defensive coaches saw coordinator Jordan Lesley going from $750,000 in the final year of his three-year extension to $775,000 this year and $800,000 the next. The other defensive coaches saw secondary coach ShaDon Brown going from $450,000 on his last contract to $500,000 this year and $525,000 the next…”

Did that mean that Lesley and Brown’s contract were up this past year and we gave them new 2 year deals with raises?

If so that is more negligent contract management. It’s not like the defense was good last year. Just the offense and one exceptional corner covered it up.

Sounds like we had a chance to get rid of both contracts and instead locked ourselves in for another 2 years.

Pass defense is a four-letter word to the Mountaineers

The saying goes "a win is a win is a win." Can't disagree. This was about as ugly of a win as I can recall in my 64 years of following Mountaineer football.
There were two Arizona touchdown passes where there was not a Mountaineer defender within 5-10 yards of the receiver. (Those don't include the
Arizona TD pass into the end zone where our defender fell). On one of the two TD mentioned earlier - we had two defenders who were not on any Arizona play
while the pass went to a guy wide open in the middle of the field.
AND don't forget the guy who was wide open near the side line late in the game who dropped a certain TD pass.
Indeed a win is a win is a win. But the gross errors noted above have happened in every game this year. And no adjustments have been made to the pass coverages. There I feel better now.
