"ATS" means "against the spread," by the way.

Since West Virginia was ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll and QB Geno Smith was the Heisman favorite in mid-2012... The Mountaineers are just 40-53-3 ATS (43%). That's 5th worst among Power 5 teams in that time frame.

WVU has never been very good ATS that I can recall.....ever......I mean look at that unforgettable 21-24 upset at the joan that fateful historic night....;)

I argued with a WVU fan in Princeton after five games in 2012. He told me that WVU was destined to play Alabama in the National Championship Game. I told him to put his crack pipe down, as no team that had surrendered 63 points in a game on its home field was good enough to play for a natty. That was just before Texas Tech broke out a can of wupa$$ on y'all in Lubbock...and the rest is history.

As close as I ever get to betting is when I put $5 on a parlay card at the neighborhood pub and I don't do that often. Regarding WVU against the spread - My dad told me a long time ago to stay away from WVU on a parlay card because if you pick them to either beat the spread or not you'll lose your money.

I haven't bet on sports in many years. My parents used to live in Las Vegas, and I'd place a wager at a casino out there from time-to-time, but not since they moved away from there several years ago. The one thing I've learned is that if a betting line makes no sense to you, then don't place a bet on the team that you believe is undervalued. The "sharps" typically have some inside information that we commoners don't.

True dat. Vegas was built on money from people who thought they were smarter than the odds stacked against them. (Take notice that since we finally agree on something on the smack board that I didn't call you a dogpeckergnat.)

WVU may never ever win it all, but for me as a fan growing up, it was the best thing going. I remember listening to the radio and hearing kendra tossing touchdown passes to Danny Buggs, and dancing around the yard to our small shack of a house. Those are days I'll always remember, and win or lose, those will always be cherished memories of listening to Jack Fleming on the old transistor radio with my daddy.

I remember attending games at old Mountaineer Field and watching some of the circus catches that Danny Buggs made. One in particular where the ball came in high and Buggs snagged it just as the defender hit him in the knees in mid air and turned him for a complete somersault but Danny held onto the ball for a completed pass. And when my dad couldn't get me to the game we always listened to Jack Fleming on the radio. Just my opinion but I've never figured out why the people at WVU haven't yet named the press box in honor of Jack Fleming, one of the best ever play by play men in the business and he was ours.
