Staten Named MVP


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 30, 2015) – Senior Juwan Staten was named Most Valuable Player of the WVU men’s basketball team at the squad’s 2014-15 banquet, held Wednesday in Morgantown.

Staten, who averaged 14.2 points and 4.6 assists per game, was named to the Lute Olson All-America Team and was a Senior CLASS Second Team All-American. He was named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the second year in a row, becoming the first WVU player to earn back-to-back first team all-conference honors since Greg Jones (1981-83).

The Big 12 Conference Preseason Player of the Year finished his WVU career with 1,260 points (26th all-time) and 433 assists (sixth all-time). Staten is one of six WVU players to post 1,000 points, 400 assists, 100 steals and 350 rebounds in a career.

Other award winners were Jevon Carter (Sixth Man and Best Defender), Devin Williams (Team Man), Gary Browne (Charge Leader), Tarik Phillip (Most Improved) and Daxter Miles Jr. (Unsung Hero).

The Mountaineers finished the 2014-15 season with 25 victories and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the sixth time in their last nine appearances.
