WVU Release WVU Women's Basketball - West Virginia Falls on the Road to Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. (Feb. 27, 2024) –The West Virginia University women's basketball team fell in its third straight contest, losing to Oklahoma State, 68-61, on Tuesday night inside Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.



West Virginia's scoring efforts were led by sophomore guard Jordan Harrison who finished with a career-high 22 points. She was joined in double figures by junior guard JJ Quinerly who added 17 points. Quinerly and junior guard Kyah Watson corralled a team-leading five rebounds.



The Mountaineers struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the game, shooting just 37.9% from the floor. The Cowgirls managed a 49% mark from the floor and controlled the paint, outscoring WVU 36-28 from the high percentage area.



Oklahoma State controlled the tempo out of the gate before Quinerly scored five straight points to level the score at six. Lauren Fields and Jayla Hemingway knocked down 3s on back-to-back possessions to give WVU a 12-10 lead at the media break. OSU held the Mountaineers scoreless the rest of the frame as WVU committed five turnovers and were 0-of-4 from the floor over the final four minutes. Oklahoma State led 16-12 after one.



The Cowgirls managed its lead in the second, extending its advantage out to nine points at 26-17 with three minutes to play. WVU cut into the OSU lead, trailing by four points with a minute to play. The Cowgirls pushed its lead to six at the foul line before a half court buzzer-beater connected for OSU at the horn. The Mountaineers trailed 35-26 at the break.



Oklahoma State continued to control play in the third, despite Harrison scoring 13 points in the frame. The Mountaineers were only able to find nine other points in the quarter as OSU outscored WVU 24-22, to an 11-point lead entering the fourth.



West Virginia outscored the Cowgirls 6-2 over the opening three minutes to pull within seven. Both teams went cold from the floor, not scoring again for over four minutes, till an OSU 3 to push the Cowgirl lead back to double digits with 3:30 to play. WVU pulled back within five points with 18 seconds on the clock before Oklahoma State managed a 68-61 victory.



With the result, West Virginia moves 15-13 all-time against the Cowgirls, including 5-8 in games played in Stillwater.



Next up, West Virginia closes out the regular season on Saturday, March 2, in a senior day battle against TCU. Tipoff against the Horned Frogs is set for 1 p.m. ET, inside WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.
