Track Earns All-Academic Honors


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 12, 2015) – A total of 13 members of the West Virginia University track and field team were named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team announced today by the conference office.



Eleven Mountaineers earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team recognition while two WVU student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.



The 13 total conference honorees tied for the fourth most in the league, and West Virginia’s two 4.0 student-athletes was the third-best mark in the conference.



The Mountaineers’ first team members included Amy Cashin, Christa D’Egidio, Alyssa Diehl, Kaitlyn Gillespie, Brianna Kerekes, Renee Maisonneuve, Lydia Martinelli, Marsielle McBeam, Katlyn Shelar, Hannah Stone and Kelly Williams.



Cashin and Williams represented the team with perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA).



Shannen Daly and Caitlin Walton earned Academic All-Big 12 Second Team distinctions.



First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.



To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
