Rowing Competes at EAWRC Sprints

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 2, 2015) – After a two-week hiatus, the West Virginia University rowing team finishes its 2015 regular season schedule on Sunday, May 3, as it travels to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, to compete at the EAWRC Sprints.

“This is a challenging weekend to compete because it bridges the end of classes and the start of final exams. As such, we’ll talk a bit more about the importance of being focused not only during racing, but in the lead-up to racing as well,” said coach Jimmy King.

This weekend’s competition will be the third official event of the spring for WVU. On April 19, West Virginia scrimmaged against Duquesne at home on the Monongahela River. The Mountaineers competed against the Dukes in the first, second and third varsity eights as well as in the first varsity fours. No team scores were kept, and the coaches altered the format and changed the lineups throughout the day.

The EAWRC Sprints includes 13 schools, and the race format consists of heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon. West Virginia has crews competing in the First Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Third Varsity 8+ and the Varsity 4+.

“Although, there aren’t any other Big 12 teams competing at this regatta, the results may impact our seeding for the championship due to some crossover arcing with common opponents,” King stated.

A finalized schedule will be posted after the coaches meeting today at 4 p.m.
