WVU Release WVU Men's Soccer - West Virginia and Kentucky to Meet in Sun Belt Semifinals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Nov. 12, 2024) The No. 10 West Virginia University men’s soccer team is back at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Wednesday for the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championship against Kentucky. Kickoff against the Wildcats is set for 7 p.m.



The Mountaineers are the top seed after winning the Sun Belt regular season title and are coming off a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Georgia Southern. Junior Marcus Caldeira, senior Carlos Hernando, and graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro each scored to send the Mountaineers to the next round.



Nick Farrell and Adam Zundell have the call of Wednesday’s contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.



Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. Tickets are $12 while tickets for students are free with a valid student ID from any Sun Belt institution.



The Mountaineers took home numerous Sun Belt postseason awards with graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro claiming Sun Belt Player and Offensive Player of the Year while head coach Dan Stratford was named Coach of the Year. Ors Navarro, graduate student Ryan Baer, and graduate student Max Broughton were all named to the All-Sun Belt First Team while junior Marcus Caldeira and redshirt-senior Marc Bonnaire earned spots on the second team.

Ors Navarro leads the Sun Belt with 13 goals and 30 points while Caldeira is second on the Mountaineers with nine goals. Ors Navarro, freshman Isaac Sheer, senior Frederik Jorgensen, and graduate student Simon Carlson lead the team with four assists each.


Kentucky is the No. 4 seed in the SBC Championship and are 6-5-6 overall after defeating South Carolina, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.



Logan Dorsey was named All-Sun Belt First Team and has 13 goals on the year, including the game-winner against the Gamecocks on Sunday. Casper Mols has played 10 games in goal and made 44 saves.
