RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. (May 15, 2024) – With a third-place finish at the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional, the West Virginia University golf team punched its ticket to advance to the NCAA Championships following the final day of competition at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California, on Wednesday.



The Mountaineers’ NCAA Championships bid marks its first appearance at the national tournament since 1947 and second time in program history. It marks the first bid in coach Sean Covich’s tenure, as well as the first appearance since the program was reinstated in 2015.



WVU earned a spot in the national championships with a three-day total of 285-280-280=845 to finish 5-over-par for the tournament. The Mountaineers shot Even par as a team in the second and third rounds to clinch their spot at the national championships.



Junior Max Green once again led the way for WVU on Wednesday, shooting 1-under-par to finish the tournament in sixth place with a final score of 71-69-69=209 (-1). Classmate Todd Duncan also finished in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard, carding scores of 73-70-70=213 (+3).



Sophomore Kaleb Wilson finished tied for 22nd place with a 71-70-73=214 (+4) total, while senior Jackson Davenport turned in a 1-over-par 71 in the final round to finish 75-71-71=217 (+7). Junior Pierce Grieve rounded out WVU’s lineup in 49th with a pair of Even-par performances for a 70-82-70=222 (+12) final total.



The Mountaineers now look ahead to the 2024 NCAA Golf Championships from May 24-29 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
