MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 6, 2024) – The West Virginia University golf team will embark on its 2024-25 slate starting at the Gopher Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota, on Sunday and Monday at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota.

Golfers will hit the links in tee times starting Sunday at 7:15 a.m. CT and will play 36 holes with the final 18 set for Monday. Windsong Farm is a par-71 course playing at 7,380 yards.

It marks the Mountaineers’ fifth appearance at the event. Joining West Virginia and host Minnesota this year will be Furman, Kent State, Iowa, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Marquette, New Mexico, Iowa State, Rutgers, UNC-Wilmington, Georgia Southern, Baylor and St. Thomas-Minnesota.

West Virginia’s lineup will consist of seniors Todd Duncan and Max Green, junior Kaleb Wilson, redshirt freshman Hugh Donegan and freshman Ryan Leach.

In addition, freshman Nick Turowski will compete as an individual at the Minnesota Golf Classic at the par-72, 6,953-yard Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, Minnesota. Turowski will play 18 holes on Saturday afternoon and 36 holes on Sunday.

The golf team will open its 10th season of golf since the program was reinstated in 2015. Last year, West Virginia’s NCAA Championships appearance was its second in program history (first since 1947) after finishing tied for third place as a No. 10 seed at the Rancho Santa Fe Regional. This year, the Mountaineers start the season ranked 39th in the country in the 2024-25 Preseason Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll.

“I’m pretty excited to get our 10th season of Mountaineer golf underway,” coach Sean Covich said. “It’s been a wild ride since we got started for the 2015-16 season. Last year was very exciting, especially at the end, from winning our own Mountaineer Invitational to keeping the momentum to Big 12s then to NCAA Regionals and ultimately the NCAA Championships. Hopefully, we can build off that for this season.”

Live scoring will be available at Scoreboard.
