WVU can't take back Rich Rod, that would split the fanbase...

Yeah, but in this particular case only winning at a level we would be highly unlikely to achieve and sustain would cure it.

Why do you think we can't sustain? This attitude frustrates the hell out of me. This attitude is what is holding WVU back. GET THE JOB DONE! Simply put. Oklahoma....Texas......Baylor.....TCU......oh, no, we can't compete......AHHHH! I'm tired of hearing that.

Because unless Rich won 10+ games virtually every year the people very angry about the way he left and what he did after he left would remain antagonistic. I don't think WVU can be THAT good with him as the coach (probably not even with Saban as the coach).

Texas hasn't been able to come close to that in recent years despite its many advantages and even Oklahoma has won as few as 8 twice since 2009.

Now, as I have said, if my choice was limited to either Dana or Rich, one or the other, period, I would pick Rich. I think going in a new direction, which is, of course, an option would be preferable to either.

Well, at least I can respect that thought. But, we have people who think going 7-5 is "great". This team had the capabilities of winning 9 games. We should have beaten Ok State. We should have beaten K-State.

I believe Rich Rod could win 8 games each season, and 10 wins every 4-6 years in this conference. I think he's a much, MUCH better coach than Dana. In 5 years Dana has not shown me he can learn on the job. He continues making the same bonehead decisions.

People are going to be angry regardless, you cant give in to the overly emotional fans. If Rich wants it, the admin wants it, and the donors want it then we do it. Joe fan does not get a voice, and by all reports the high level donors want it.

As for Texas, okay they've been down, is that somehow going to continue? It is just a matter of time before the window closes on TCU and/or Baylor (personally I think it just happened this year) and Texas takes their place among the Big XII elite, we cant sit and say "look at Texas they suck and some how were supposed to demand better?" because Texas is not going to suck very long and their fanbase will demand better and they will get better. What our mentality as a fanbase should be "look at Baylor, they were Rutgers-south and now they have been relevant for about 5 years now, why cant that be us atleast once every 4 years?"

Rich has gotten us to that level, I dont know why we would want a "new" direction given how unlikely it is we strike gold on a hire that would have a coordinator or MAC-level type of resume.

Getting RR would split the fan base even more....why can't we as a fan base move on! If there is going to be a new coach, can we look at someone different that all can rally around? Seems foolish to go backward.

Very valid points, and I agree with most of them. The mentality of some on here about how we should be "happy" with a 4-1 finish and a 7-5 season is sickening. It would be OK if we returned a very young team with no experience and were coming off a great season or two. But this has been the status quo since entering this league.

The one thing I KNOW Rich Rod would bring back is the "By God, we are West Virginia" attitude. I felt he did a great job of that type of attitude while he was here. We never let down, we may have had a few games where we played like shit (ex. Louisville when we fumbled the ball away; Pitt in 2007), but the guys played hard and had that chip on their shoulder.

I feel that Gibson has done that with his defense. He may be a guy I could get behind to be a head coach. He seems to have that attitude like Rich Rod. And there's no doubt that you can see the impact he's had on his side of the ball. Compare it to the offensive side, and it's laughable.

Going backward is what we are doing now if we hold on to this guy longer. Rich Rod wouldn't be "backward", it would be forward. He's a proven coach, has the pedigree already established, recruiting pipelines established, etc. Going with someone else would be starting over and that's not what we need right now. We need stability.

Is it really that unlikely we strike gold on a hire that would have a coordinator or MAC-level type of resume?

Two of our last 3 hires who fit that profile were pretty much home run hires for WVU.

AZ finished at 6-6. Seems we would be going backwards because the fan base would be more fractured than it is now, so that is not moving forward! And remember someone once said "WV is no place special".

Not to mention we likely get to keep Gibson as DC (cant believe Im actually relieved about that given his past with the DBs)

AZ finished at 6-6 same as WVU...seems we would be going backwards because the fan base would be more fractured than it is now, so that is not moving forward! And remember someone once said "WV is no place special".

You have to stop comparing AZ with this job and any other job as apples to apples. AZ is quite literally the desert of college of football. Nobody wins there and they're 1 season removed from their 2nd ever 10 win season, this year they got shelled with injuries which caused them to fall short of preseason expectations. RR has done more there than almost any other coach in AZ's history, it is quite comparable to his 4 year run here.

Yes it is fair to compare...as it is at Michigan. All I am asking is "why him?" Wouldn't it be better to have new blood at the helm?

He failed at Michigan because Michigan cut the cord a year early. Theres a reason that blundering fool Brady Hoke won a Sugar Bowl in his first season then began a downward trajectory.

One thing I have learned about life and politics.....time heals most wounds and winning cures all wounds!!

"Theres a reason that blundering fool Brady Hoke won a Sugar Bowl in his first season then began a downward trajectory."

Would it be similar to the reason Holgorsen won a Fiesta Bowl his first year and then began a downward trajectory?

Actually yes, it's not like guys like Geno, Steadman, and Tavon show up in every recruiting class.

WVU fans would be LUCKY to get Rich back.
1. The pay difference between Arizona and WVU isn't a lure for Rich to return home.
2. Rich was the best coach at WVU in the 21st century.
3. Dana's had several years to prove himself. He's mired in the 7-victory mode.
4. If being in the Big 12 is an excuse, then nothing will change because WVU will remain in the Big 12. So 4th to 6th place finishes will be the new "normal" for my alma mater.
5. Dana has the worst winning percentage of the 21st century among WVU coaches.
6. Spin it all you want, but 1. through 5. are indisputable.

You have a point.

If only WVU had someone whose job duties included recruiting QBs and receivers who can perform at a competent level in the offense our HC wants to use. It's a shame Dana has been let down by the recruiting over which he has no control and which left us in year 5 with Skyler Howard throwing to extremely erratic receivers and no backup QB we even dare give meaningful snaps.

The man has been extremely handicapped by someone's abject failure in this regard. Maybe we should launch an investigation to determine why our recruiters are sabotaging this fine coach.

I was not a huge fan of RR when he was here and I certainly did not like the way he left. But some things are just a good fit and that is how I feel about RR and WVU. I think WVU is where he can win.

Not saying I want RR back but aren't you glad every word you've said isn't eternally held against you?

I can almost guarantee that Holgorsen will be coaching at WVU for the foreseeable future. All this talk about making a coaching change is silly. The commitment from WVU to Holgorsen and Holgorsen to WVU was made several years ago.

The trolls and low information fans only bring up RR's name because they think it is an insult to WVU. RR is stuck in the desert coaching Arizona and that is where he will finish his career, and Holgorsen is WVU's coach.

If DH gets canned...please please look elsewhere for a coach besides the desert!! That is all I am saying! RR is not a perfect fit for WVU as was shown in the past! Yes, the winning was nice...but there was a terrific cost. I for one don't want to live through that again. New blood is needed not old bad blood!! Just saying!

Low information is better than NO information or STUPID information.....but you and your buddy Punisheer keep it up. I give you credit for not quitting.
