WVU fans are witnessing what can be accomplished with a superstar leading our basketball team. And at exactly the right position. If we had a superstar at any other position, it would not be as important. Small is our superstar QB. The rest of the cast of misfits are role players. And DeVries has molded them into something far better than the sum of the individual parts. That is the very definition of a great coach.

We were picked to finish 14th in the Big 12 for a reason. Anyone looking at this roster, all newcomers, would never imagine they would be in the top 5 of the Big 12 at this stage of the season. And Small is the reason. A great player at PG makes all the difference. He makes everyone better. A great QB along with a stifling defense can go a long way. And the fact that our role players not only know their role but stay in character is another tribute to DeVries. .

I don't know where this team goes. But as long as we have DeVries and a great PG, we have a chance. I do wonder, if the other DeVries was not injured, just how far this team could go. Two stars and a group of strong role players can go a long way. And now with Hansberry coming on, we have more optionality. We can play small with Hansberry at the 5 or we can play a bit bigger with Andre at the 5 and Hansberry at the 4. That was crucial against ISU. And you need that kind of optionality in the tourney.

If we are going to spend NIL on the basketball team, focus first on PG. The straw that stirs the drink. We have never had a great football team without terrific QB play. And we will never have a great basketball team without terrific PG play.
