MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 16, 2025) The No. 16 West Virginia University fell to Kansas, 8-5, Friday evening at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers fall to 40-12 and 19-8 in the Big 12 while the Jayhawks improve to 41-14 and 19-10 in conference play.



Senior Kyle West went 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run, his team leading ninth of the season. Junior Ellis Garcia added his first home run of the season and drove in two.



Both teams scored a run in the first before West put the Mountaineers on top with a solo home run in the third.



In the fourth, the Jayhawks took control with five runs before adding another two in the fifth.



West Virginia got one run in the eighth and two in the ninth on Garcia’s home run, but could not complete the rally.



On the mound, junior Robby Porco had his best outing of the season with 4.0 scoreless innings of relief, striking out five while allowing just one hit.



The Mountaineers close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will begin at approximately 12:20 p.m.
