MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 7, 2023) – Fifth-year senior Killian Cardinale, redshirt junior Anthony Carman and redshirt sophomore Austin Cooley of the West Virginia University wrestling team are set to compete at the 2023 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships after collecting three of the final 47 at-large berths into their respective fields, announced by the NCAA Committee on Tuesday.

The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, ratings percentage index, coaches ranking and conference tournament finish.

Cardinale (125) heads back for his third straight tournament, while Carman (184) and Cooley (197) each make their debuts. With the addition of the three wildcards, WVU sends six to NCAAs for the first time since 2012, which is the most NCAA qualifiers during head coach Tim Flynn’s tenure.

They join redshirt freshman Jordan Titus (133), junior Peyton Hall (165) and redshirt junior Michael Wolfgram (HWT), as the trio broke the allocation threshold of their respective weight classes during the 2023 Big 12 Championship to clinch an automatic bid. Titus braces for his first trip to nationals, while Hall preps for his third appearance and Wolfgram enters his second after debuting last season in Detroit.

Final brackets and seeding for the NCAA Championships are set to be announced on Wednesday, March 8, via NCAA.com at 8 p.m. ET.

The NCAA Championships feature 330 wrestlers across ten weight classes vying for a spot on the podium from March 16-18, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tulsa plays host to the national tournament for the first time in NCAA history, which marks the 12th time the tournament will be held in the state of Oklahoma and the first time since 2014.
