...hot seat with the hiring of Ross Hodge, and on the front end of the equation is the appearance of this being a buddy buddy deal.

The years long relationship with Baker and Hodge took place between the years of 2017 and 2022. Wren being the athletic director at Dallas based North Texas and Hodge serving as the associate head coach at NTU during that span.

As many know, my top choice was Jim Crutchfield, he of West Liberty and Nova Southeastern fame. Still, me believes, think the selection of The Crutch would have been an outstanding pick. Second was Rick Pitino, who, as it has been reported, had communications with Baker and a deal couldn't be worked out. Pitino would have been an instant success, both on the court and at the ticket window. No doubt about it.

Did Baker wait too long in making the hire? And if so, why? I think it is obvious he waited too long, just the fact that he probably was in a panic and the hour was late, making him turn to an old reliable location and restoring his relationship with Hodge, who with a mere two years of big time head coaching experience is taking over the storied basketball program at our beloved university. Wren, if he's around, better hope for the best in this situation, one that he alone has created and owns.

Time will tell for both Baker and Hodge. Personally, I never liked the appearance of who-you-know. It smells of politics, and we all know where that leads.
