Players who left WVU basketball with eligibility remaining over the years

It’s interesting that the departures with eligibility were MORE in 2019, 2013, 2002, 1990 than in 2021.
Another reminder that what happens today usually is nothing new.
As usual, the numbers tell the story calmly and accurately.
As you know, I’m a numbersaholic.

Trend across the country is that more and more teams are losing more and more players. Portal makes it easier for a kid to look for another place to land. 1 time transfer with immediate playing will have coaches scrambling for players to fill their rosters going forward. I've seen numbers of upwards of 1700 BB players in the portal this year. And sadly it's reported that up to 30% will not find a DI home.

Some claim it to be higher percentage that that.

Players, like we ol' folks, are always seeing greener pastures elsewhere. It's in the human DNA. And they don't know the history that their transfers are a longshot for a better career. I can't criticize them for being as stupid as I was as that age. I just count on Huggins and Brown to come up with better replacements than the departed talent. Bob, in particular, has been outstanding in that regard over the years. Neal hasn't been around long enough for anyone to get a good handle on him yet. Anyone who says they do is deluding themselves. I'm not egotistical enough to think I am.

Buyer’s remorse. I’m better than the younger guy that’s playing ahead of me and I’m not willing to wait till I’m a Senior to develop enough to get minutes. Macon and Harler were exceptions. Huggs seems to be willing to allow guys to mature and keep their schollys if they are good citizens and willing to work on their weaknesses. Some coaches out there would simply not renew their schollys if they don’t quickly contribute.

Why is it sad that kids who bail on their teammates dont find another gulluble school to freeload from? Screw them.
