Hear this term thrown around a lot during the coaching carousel season. I always assumed "back channels" meant agents. But now it seems like agents are "front" or "main" channels, and "back" channels are one channel removed from agents.
So when it's reported that a school or organization reached out to a coach via "back channels" what exactly does that mean? Who speaks on behalf of a coach other than his agent? Childhood buddy? Wife? In law? Honestly lost because the more I read this term the more I'm convinced it does not mean what we all think it means.
