WVSPORTS.COM West Virginia Mountaineers football: Five reasons to be cautious in 2019

Leadership on the team? Ultimately you would prefer the QB to be the leader of the offense such as a guard on basketball. Defense leader can just about be anyone. Prefer it to be someone that gets fired up.

Emotionally the QB isn't always the leader.
Very much like your safety on defense.

Used to be the MLB but that has changed.
Your S is the leader on your D. He sees everything and communicates.
Very much like a MLB in the 80's with Mike Singletary. Funny how they call that position Mike.

Now it is Safety.
Great Defenses all feature an elite S.
In some cases 2-3.
The Free Safety or Support Safety is usually the one.

Google ga ga. Put your binky back in your mouth.

Yet...

You told someone to use Google on another topic.
Funny how that is...

If you ever played or coach football you would know how important Safties are.

You learn in junior high if you ever played or coached the position to shout "run" or "pass"

As the safety you are the person who is in charge plus you are the last line of defense.

With that you can be easily burned with the playaction.

Safties aren't always the emotion leaders on a defense but they are the one in charge.

Exactly.
Leadership is important at S. Not just leadership but a high football IQ.
A player who will make sure everyone is in the right spot especially himself.

Especially with what West Virginia is trying to do on D.

The people in charge know what a good safety looks like.
Ultimately I think WV's biggest weakness is still at corner unless Miller the JUCO proves to be a player.
LSU wanted Miller at S. Probably could end up playing there as well at WV but as of right now he is a physical corner.
The type that WV needs.
