—West Virginia head coach Neal Brown said that he was proud of how his team competed and played tough and physical but made too many mistakes in critical times.

—Oklahoma’s specialists are very impressive. Field goal protection was good and that was the best that Tyler Sumpter has punted the ball.

—Battled up front and they had a good plan controlling the ball. They have to do a better job getting into successful shot plays. They had three possessions in the second half. They had a chance to make a statement and didn’t get it in there. The second one was when they got the fourth down stop and missed a third down. The third was the snap. You have to score touchdowns to win these type of games. You want to minimize possessions but when you get in the red zone you have to score touchdowns.

—Defensively they played really, really well for three quarters. West Virginia was really good on third down but they got tired late. They wore down a little bit at the end and have to rotate more. They got tired at linebacker and on the defensive line. They’ve got to take the next step to win those games.

—Texas Tech is next and they’ve had their number. West Virginia has not played well the last two years. Offensively very similar to the style they’re using. The QB that started last year will start again and did a good job extending plays in that game. Their wide receiver No. 13 is very good and he’s as good as anybody they’ve played. Defensively they’ve been very good. They are strong up front and drop eight a bunch and are a three man front. They get to man on third down and they’re glad to be home.

—Daryl Talley is getting his number retired.

—Zach Frazier played his ass off. He is if not the hardest worker he’s in the conversation. He does everything that gives you an opportunity to play well on Saturday night. He played against some really good players in there and he did a great job. He just had two bad plays. He thought the quarterback asked for the ball and he didn’t. He will take him every single time in that moment.

—In his opinion they were offsides and in Greg Burks they weren’t and he doesn’t want to get a fine.

—It helps that they played Columbi last year. He’s done a good job and they feel comfortable with him. He really hurt them with his legs.

—The first one he was falling backwards on the snap and the second one he thought that Doege was calling for the snap.

—Both years against Texas Tech are rushing yardage and turnovers and the third is in the red zone.

—Last year they played well on defense but they got some fortunate breaks with where they’ve caught people. But this year they’ve played some talented teams and defended well. As a group they have a chance to be as good or better.

—West Virginia has established a standard of how they want to play defense. There’s a formula for them to win big here and it’s playing great defense. They have to get more explosive on offense. They formulated this the first spring they were here.

—Texas Tech’s offense is good the receiver for them is special. Extended some plays against Houston and they had three 50+ yard go balls.

—The Heisman has become an offensive skill award.

—Hammond Russell is in the discussion on defensive line, have to push Jalen Thornton and Sean Martin. Middleton played a few snaps and has to play lower.

—They’ve had really good drives to start the second half but there were only three possessions in the second half for West Virginia against Oklahoma. They were positioned where they could score a field goal or touchdown and ran the clock before the bad snap. The offense struggles in the second half are fair against Maryland and Virginia Tech. Early in the fourth quarter is where they have struggled.

—On the search for explosive plays going into the game it’s a week to week deal. They were first or second in the league in explosive plays going into the Oklahoma game.

—Brown said they need to get a number two guy at that RB position. They’ve had to use Leddie Brown to block.

—game to game feel from both quarterbacks. Jarret did some good things. He would like that ball back in the end zone. Garrett did some good things and he executed what was asked of him on when to pull it and give it and when to throw and not.
