--West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins said Kansas is really good but they’re playing smaller, which is different than having the two bigs that they typically have. They spread you out and try to dribble penetrate. They usually have to impressive bigs, but they not as big as normal.

--Bill Self played zone a little bit against West Virginia last year and will throw it in there at times.

--West Virginia big men have been used to playing on the perimeter when need be. They have to guard the Mountaineers, too, so they will have a size advantage against Kansas for the first time in a while.

--Huggins doesn’t know if it will be full or not inside the Fieldhouse. Still, it even seemed loud on television when he was watching it.

--Iowa State played really well and West Virginia didn’t do anything well. But if you’re going to be a good team you have to make plays at the end of games and that’s what the Mountaineers did down the stretch run to get the victory against the Cyclones.

--Derek Culver’s maturation starts with him. He wants to be a good player and wants to do things right and doesn’t want to let his teammates down. Culver and Huggins has developed a close relationship due to the time they’ve known each other after recruiting him as a sophomore in high school.

--West Virginia hasn’t been consistent in anything outside of rebounding the ball. They thought that those guys in year two would be way more consistent than they were in year one but it’s a lot of things that have led to them giving up too many points in the paint. You have to help and if you put anybody out there one-on-one it’s hard to keep them from driving to the basket. West Virginia hasn’t done as good of a job as they need to in that department.

--West Virginia just wanted to play they had to go through cancelations and people dropping out so they just wanted to play. They don’t really have a saving grace, so they just have to play when they need them to play. Every trip is a long trip for them.

--Huggins believes his team should be with their families around Christmas. He will give them an opportunity to do that. They will get back the 26th and will get tested three days in a row. Those guys have been good but that’s not to say that they couldn’t get it. It is what it is and you deal with it.

--Huggins thinks if you’re shooting in the 40’s from three you’re doing well.

--Some of the games that West Virginia has played and won already will help them down the road such as Western Kentucky and VCU. He didn’t want to play teams that were going to hurt them. He wanted to play teams that were going to help the resume overall and his guys deserved that.

--Huggins talked to James Long after beating Morgan State and he was excited.
