WVSPORTS.COM West Virginia football picked eighth in Big 12 Preseason Poll

I can see why we’ve been picked eighth, but i truly think we end up better than eighth.

Majority of Big 12 media is in Texas and Oklahoma so even if there is a noticable difference with WVU it will go unnoticed.

More and more people are coming around on Matt Wells and Tech.
A lot believe the game between Tech and WV will determine bowl eligibility for WVU and Tech.

Big 12 Football Preseason Poll:

1. Oklahoma (68)

2. Texas (9)

3. Iowa State

4. TCU

5. Oklahoma State

6. Baylor

7. Texas Tech

8. West Virginia

9. Kansas State

10. Kansas

IMO...........

1. Oklahoma (68)

2. Texas (9)

3. Iowa State

4. Oklahoma State

5. TCU

6. Baylor

7.West Virginia

8. Texas Tech

9. Kansas State

10. Kansas

Texas Tech is Top 5 with OL experience.
Didn't help K State last year but K State was a decent team with turmoil on staff.
Most teams that bring back that much experience on the OLine and at QB do much better than expected.

Combine this with returning QBs

This is from Phil Steele

K State (QB)
Kansas
Texas (QB)
Oklahoma State
TCU
Baylor (QB)
West Virginia

This is suppose to mean what? I stand by my pick WVU 7.

If you had any strength to pick on your roster it would be at OLine and at QB.
Especially with a new coach.

OLine Experience doesn't mean you have a dominant OLine but it means you have players who have played a lot of downs.
Only position I can say Tech is great to elite in is at LT.

They are going to be a team come November and December that are a lot better than most think.

On the otherhand Oklahoma State and Baylor are two teams who may not.
The end of Mike Gundy is slowly coming. They took some even bigger hits this year and lost their QB.

I think WV can find a sixth win somewhere.

I still think they start 4-0.

NC State has issues
Kelly Bryant will make your defense look good.

If WVU starts 4-0 They'll win 7 games. It's why I think their best start is 3-1 or 2-2 at worst.

Texas Tech will be the same as WVU. Around .500. Tech will go 2-2 in November after a 4-4 start and they finish 6-6.

Gundy always seems to find a QB. But I do believe this will be his last year. Oklahoma State always looses 2 games they shouldn't.

TCU is an offensive ? mark.

WVU will be either 3-4 or 4-3 by the time they play Baylor and BU will be 5-2.

Texas will be 4-0 WVU will be 3-1 or 2-2 by the time they play.

I like sliding scales for teams based on upside and weaknesses.

Not really big on preseason rankings..

Every team in the Big 12 have question marks. Some more than others and some have question marks at important positions.

Oklahoma-OLine
Can Jalen Hurts be reprogrammed. Saban is more of a game manager than Riley.
How fast does their defense get better. Their secondary is trash.

Texas-Sam Ehlinger's health
Young CBs
Inexperienced players on Defense. How fast can the RS Freshmen and Sophomores develop

Iowa St- Replacing Montgomery and Butler.
Development of Purdy

TCU- QB
OLine
Is Sewo playing. Can the get Jalen Reagor the ball.

Oklahoma State- QB
Defensive Line
Questions about Mike Gundy and how many supporters does he have or has T Boone Pickens won his battle

Baylor- OLine
Secondary

WV- QB
Finding the players for their scheme on Defense
Secondary

Texas Tech- Does Bowman development slow down without Kingsbury
How much difference does one year make on D

Kansas State- Pretty much lost all their skill players
Can their D stop anyone without having Bill Snyder and his smashmouth spread controlling possession

Kansas- Pretty much the entire team except Pooka .

Until these questions are answered no one knows.
You just have to go by how important are the question marks.

Kansas football has learned to cheat from the best. Bill Self giving lessons to Miles. Pooka 1 game suspension.

At least Les Miles is recruiting....
But it seems like all bread.

If this class proves different than I will be shocked.
If you aren't getting elite talent why pick recruits so early.
At least watch another year. They could prove me wrong but Kansas at 22 commits is way behind Texas with only 8 commits in the calculator.
If Texas is going to be picky Kansas definitely has to.

This is why I like Neal Brown so far.
He understands recruiting and will bring top talent to WVU.

Les Miles will be starting an uphill climb. Maybe he gets there before he leaves maybe he doesn't. But remember this. It doesn't matter his age if he turns KU into a winning program in 2 to 3 years then he will be coaching elsewhere.

Neal Brown is also trying to keep the top talent in the state. Pride304 would be so proud.
