--There isn’t a whole lot to say we were soundly beaten in all three phases. The first half was the worst football they have played. They’re really good and playing their best football of the year so he doesn’t want to discredit that. They dominated both lines of scrimmages so credit to them. They’ve steadily gotten better each year and they’ve done a great job building their program. Not West Virginia’s best performance though because they didn’t coach or play well enough in this one.

--Brown said they couldn’t sustain blocks at all. The line of scrimmage moved back almost every snap. They dominated the line of scrimmage and they shot their linebackers in gaps which they hadn’t done all year. They switched some things up and they got heavy in the B-Gaps with their ends and they struggled at offensive tackle in this one today.

--Iowa State did a good job mixing it up offensively, but this was the worst tackling performance that they’ve had. Purdy’s ability to extend plays was significant and half of their explosive plays were him doing just that. They mixed it up, but they had a lot of success. They didn’t have to do a whole lot today because they won their one on ones.

--West Virginia is in year two but they’re a lot better than they were a year ago, but they’re a long way from where they need to be to compete in the championship game. They’ve been in the contest until the end of the game until this one, but they soundly beaten them. They have a lot of veteran guys and have been there. He’s disappointed in how they played, but he’s not discouraged.

--It’s not about who you’re playing, you have to make routine plays to be as good as they need to be. Iowa State made those routine plays and paid attention to details which allowed them to win. They won their one-on-one battles. West Virginia has to do a better job of making routine plays.

--Four-man defensive line was the same as it was against TCU because they felt like they had a better chance. The best 11 out there was going four down in this one but the results weren’t good.

--Brown couldn’t make a lot of excuses, but it doesn’t matter. They didn’t play well in the first half and they didn’t have a lot of energy. They had adversity and didn’t respond. They didn’t handle it well and they got exposed in some ways that they haven’t in all year. It hurt them not playing in three weeks but that is not the reason they got their tails kicked today. He isn’t going to make excuses.

--Iowa State is built in the right way. They didn’t play well in the opener, but they’re playing as well as anybody in the nation. They can stop the run and run the football. They got a quarterback that can extend plays and they can get pressure with three or four rushers. They didn’t get pressure with four guys, but they are playing as well as anybody in the nation outside of some of the elite. They played their starters late to try to make a point and Brown doesn’t blame them.
