WVSPORTS.COM West Virginia football defensive line has to be ‘a force’ in 2019

I’ve always said we need to get pressure on quarterback when we aren’t blitzing. So important!!

Just matters the QB.

Experienced QBs know where the rush is coming from with the DL.

This is why blitzes are so important. You can hide pressure or show pressure and confuse a QB.
Some young QBs can get spooked early especially when you bring pressure from all over.

Everyone wants a DL to create a pass rush but ultimately their biggest job is to stop the run.
There still will be a lot of what they call occupying space.
WV for the most part is still an odd man front with the Bandit being a swing guy.

Best odd man fronts are ones that can create pressure with the DL
Look at Alabama last year or the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL

The Steelers had great defenses for a long time with guys like Joel steed and Casey Hampton, great run stoppers and hole vloggers that were at least good enough to occupy the line while the linebackers went nuts. They had an Aaron Smith here and there but their off man front was to take up blockers and stop the run, a guy like Hampton who could penetrate just made them better. A 4 man front is when you need to penetrate more and get after the QB because you dont have 4 linebackers to do it with, that's why guys like Suggs and them are either 3-4 linebackers or 4-3 ends

You need a disruptor in the middle in an odd man front

Dante Stills could be the best DL in the Big 12 by December
He is one of the players I think could end up Big 12 DL of the year.
