Watching your game

Roughing the passer was but Worley did interfere.I guess that was what you were referring to. Not sure how you could not see that.

I believe he is talking about the offensive PI on Mathis.

Correct. And I'm not one of these "refs cost you the game" guys, ultimately you have to overcome bad things with your play, but those penalties on back-to-back series (i think)were big momentum shifts when it was still back-and-forth.

The roughing the passer call wasn't because of the initial hit, but because after the release, he drove him to the ground and the quarterback hit the back of his head on the ground. That won't get called 50%, but it will be called some.

But the Mountaineers got some breaks from officials too. The ULC penalty on Tapper was pretty lightweight and the quality safety, number 9 I think, was lucky to not have been called for a targeting penalty. He earholed a receiver who was defenseless. No call. Then when OUr guy retaliated on the same guy with a lesser hit, but away from the ball on OUr next possession, it wrecked our drive.

I would agree that the officiating wasn't great. But the players scrummed it up in the pregame with officials and coaches getting them separated. It carried over into the game, and the officials were fighting to keep it from getting out of hand, not an easy chore.

I saw some passing on train wrecks, while calling felonies for what could have been ignored. But it sort of went both ways.

It's funny. That crew is usually pretty decent. Saturday, not so much.

Let's not forget that Karl Joseph probably should have been tossed out of the game early on for targeting. How he got away with that I'll never know.

BTW, that was the same crew that called the Baylor game in Morgantown last season. So you can't hate on them that match.

They do like to throw their flags.

These officials are terrible. The offensive pass interference call and roughing the passer were absurd.

Yeah and the fact that Karl Joseph isn't serving time for his obvious helmet to helmet hit on Westbrook was "absurd" along with various non call facemask penalties. On WV first scoring drive, there were 60 yards of BS penalties...not all were bad calls, but some were.

It goes both ways. Both teams benefitted from questionable calls. Grow up, T-Cat98

The fact that the replay showed that they were correct calls seems to indicate that the refs could at least see. I ,too, thought Joseph would be called for that hit on the sidelines. The one that is stupid is the horse collar call when the OU player ducked under the WVU linebacker. That's not what the horse collar was put in for. It was for pulling down from behind, the OU player saw him and ducked. That should only be called if it's from behind on not on someone trying to avoid a tackle. Joseph should have hit him lower, it would have resulted in the same dropped ball and no chance of penalty. The late hit on the QB was ticky tack on both plays. OU after off sides and ours on Mayfield.

I heard they were also the same crew that called the OSU/TX game and killed the whorns with all those penalties. Illegal Wedge on a kickoff return? WTH? I think they just like to see themselves on TV.

Fwiw, I didn't watch the whole game. I watched portions of the first half. Didn't see the play you're referring to re: Joseph. However, if what you say is accurate, it would appear that you agree with the premise of my thread, which is/was that the refs sucked. That being the case, sounds like you're they one that needs to "grow up."

I saw that called on Baylor, I thought last week against Tech, but maybe it was the game against WVU last year. Baylor cheats. So the fact that they got called for 200 plus in penalties last season in Morgantown, did not hurt my feelings.

Same thing in the Cotton Bowl against Michigan State. It's not a coincidence that the two games when they were called for many and crucial penalties, were the two they lost. And it's not like it was an aberration. They led the country in penalty yardage last season.
