University of Florida set to fire their head coach

I have no names to put out there as who to get as our next coach. What we can't have is a change for change sake.
We need to be methodical and careful about the next coach. I think we all know WVU is at a major crossroad for it's football future.
Who were our last 2 successful coaches and what was their previous experience.
Don had 2 undefeated seasons here, for the majority of his time here he was consistent until he became to complacent as a coach. When hired I remember people saying Who is he. Well he had a lot of experience as head coach at Bowling Green and was an assistant at Michigan, where we hired him from.. He had solid coaching foundation. It took a. Couple of years, but he took the time to understand not only was he going to be a coach, but went out to see what WVU meant to the state, he pushed his players, an won, a lot.
Rich. Ok, the end was ugly, but he also had head coaching experience, moved up through Tulane and Clemson. Yes he was home grown, but he also understood what WVU football meant to Mountaineers everywhere. He turned out to have an ego that defeated him.He had success here but made his own bed and took down his career by his doings.
Dana, never embraced West Virginia, had not that much experience, and we rushed to get him here as Head Coach in waiting. I can't say his time here was a failure, there was success, and the 70-33. But he lacked the consistency that we expect. We jumped to get him. He had no head coaching experience, no loyalty to the state or university which is important here. He left pretty much by just serving out his contract and moving on to Houston, and we know how that went
Neil. He did have success at Troy, he is a good man, not the best as an ambassador for the University, and he has be simply an under performing coach.
We need someone who will commit to the school, that players, fans, state and donors.
The program cannot afford another mediocre coach. We need someone with fire, integrity and the work ethic as a coach to rebuild the in program back to one of the better recognized programs in the country .
We need to do our research, no jump because someone says the fire is hot. We need to make an informed decision. A smart decision, and someone who understands what this University means to West Virginians. Let's get the right guy
, not a decision made on a guy feeling. Who is that? Do we even know his name now? Who ever heard about Don Nehlen? Let's find the right man, not just some man

I don't disagree about "making a change just to make a change". These AD's have a "short list" of candidates and if a change is being talked about, they have already reached out through their people to those coach's people. So if they get a bite, they'll pull the trigger and make a change. If there isn't a bite, they won't.

Coach Brown appears to be a great man. It's really sad that he wasn't able to elevate WVU football to a higher level.

Well said and on spot.

Rak is right we need someone with fire, integrity and work ethic. The Fire part is underrated and we need to bring that back to the program. There are coaches out there who have all of those qualities and we got to find one. The further we stay in the situation we're in the worse it's going to get. We are in the top 30 in the nil. This team was once a national name. Oklahoma and Texas left the big 12 and we should be the top dog now. There is simply no excuse to not be competing for the Big 12 title every year at this point. WVU is a good football and should be a perennial top 25 team. There is no excuse for anything less. I'm tired of excuses. We've had six years of excuses from this coach and it's getting old. I have never seen a coach on any level deflect blame and make excuses the way Neil Brown does. We listen to his press conferences at work because the guys like to make fun of him. They literally turn him on the radio on purpose so they can hear what kind of weak excuses he's going to make up this week. They don't take him seriously they just laugh at how weak he is. Personally I don't laugh. I'm done with this dude and have been for 3 years. It was obvious after his second year that he wasn't the guy. We've been wasting time and that's all.
