Gee is in charge, for better or worse. He has said WVU is first going to hire an AD and the first job of the AD is an evaluation of the football program. Gee wants the AD to make the call. So the AD hire is critical both in terms of the quality of the hire as well as the date of the hire. If this thing drags out, we have no chance, even if we make a coaching change, to minimize damage done via the portal and recruiting losses. So, I believe the later the hire, the more likely Brown is retained.

We will eventually hire an AD. If the hire is in the very near future, then both scenarios will be in play. Scenario one is that the new AD fires Brown and hires a new coach. The new coach will, hopefully, be exciting enough to limit transfers out, losses of our recruits and will get the fan base excited enough that we see no drop in revenues. The second scenario is that Brown is retained with conditions. Not sure what those conditions are but big changes of Brown's staff seem likely. And perhaps Brown is given more ammunition via NIL money and more money to pay assistants. Under these circumstances with the second scenario, we have some major issues. The first is fan support. Retaining Brown will certainly not excite the fan base. Loss of revenue is to be expected, perhaps a big loss. And it will be very, very difficult to upgrade the coaching staff, even if we pay much better, with possible assistants knowing that Brown is in trouble and may only be retained for one more year.

We have to hope we get a really good and quick hire for our AD. Then the AD will have both scenarios available. But the longer this drags out the more likely scenario two is where we head, imo.
