Trump said “one of the presidents of a big country” at one point asked him whether the US would still defend the country if they were invaded by Russia even if they “don’t pay.”

“No, I would not protect you,” Trump recalled telling that president. “In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. You got to pay. You got to pay your bills.”

The US would have been better staying on an island by itself. There's no need to have allies when you stop meddling in foreign affairs. All of the military budget should be spent on technology and training to defend the country from long range attacks and illegals trying to cross the border. All manufacturing should be done in the US and the country's goal should have been to become self sustaining without any kind of dependence on outsiders. It should be treason for government to send taxpayer money to foreign countries, especially foreign countries that hate us. The US does not owe anybody anything just like no other countries owe the US anything. Let each country deal with their own problems and come up with their own solutions.

No I don't want to secluded us from allies. But what kind of allies are they if they don't live up to the agreement? If they are supposed to pay a certain % of gdp and are not why are we stepping up ? I'm more in favor of getting our noses out of everyone's business. There you go again "projecting" onto Trump and then criticizing him for something he didn't even do! Remember he's the one who was worried about Russia gaining too much influence over our NATO allies by selling them cheap LNG (liquified natural gas) through their Nord Stream two pipeline. So he proposed sanctions on Russia's pipeline, while increasing American LNG sales to our NATO allies. You gave him no credit for that, which cut off a huge market for Russia and expanded energy sales for us as well as assured the safety of LNG supplies to our allies, absent Russian blackmail.

Guess who cut off our LNG sales to our NATO allies, and lifted the sanctions against Russia selling to them?

I know you did... you also sold us out to the Chi-Coms while I slapped massive tariffs on them which were crippling their rickety economy before they unleashed a dangerous viral bio weapon in retaliation!

This is something the Left doesn't understand about Trump's MAGA message. He's not calling for us withdrawing from World affairs, especially not at the expense of ignoring our priorities first. He in fact encourages other countries to look out for themselves and stop relying on the US to settle their disputes or pay their bills! We have our strategic alliances to protect World peace which we will always honor, however we are not nor can we be the World's policemen.

To me we have three strategic alliances that we MUST honor in order to assure World peace and our own protection from tyranny.

1) Israel

2) NATO

3) (Pacific) Japan, S. Korea, and Taiwan

Within those strategic alliances, those countries are more than capable of supplying vast majorities of their own Defense, with us supplementing them to maintain deterrence. That does NOT mean however, we fund them entirely, or even more than 50%. It means we will stand with them to protect their Freedom as well as our interests.
