Briles has a point. If he wanted to spy on the Sooners for their Nov. 14 game in Waco, wouldn't he dispatch a staff member who wasn't an OU grad and wouldn't be recognized by dozens of Sooner partisans?
Of course, if Lebby was pure of heart, why wouldn't he have worn Baylor colors? Support your employer if you can't support your school.
Briles said the live scouting is “very uncommon. There's not a lot of examples to go by. It's kind of an unwritten rule. Guys my age apparently know it. Younger people apparently don't.”
Actually, it's not an unwritten rule. It's written out nice and legible. Hard to follow the rules if you don't know the rules.
Stoops clearly was chapped Monday. Probably shouldn't declare too much of a high road, though.
Last October in Fort Worth, Mayfield was on the OU sideline for the TCU game, and Frog coach Gary Patterson accused Mayfield of trying to decipher signals from TCU assistant coach Sonny Cumbie, who had coached at Texas Tech with Mayfield in 2013. Mayfield also was in Lubbock for the OU-Tech game later that year.
That's not against any NCAA rule that I know of, so long as Mayfield transported himself to those Texas ports, but it doesn't seem to be all that sporting.
Unwritten rules, you can debate. Written rules, not so much.
Baylor has lost the benefit of the doubt, at least with Big 12 colleagues. Patterson, in particular, is no fan of Briles. Even took a shot at Briles on Tuesday, saying two recently-arrested Horned Frogs, charged with felony robbery and bodily injury, is “not even close to what happened south of here.” That's no subtle reference to notorious rape conviction of Baylor football player Sam Ukwuachu.
Didn't put Patterson in a very good light, but he was willing to go there to pop Briles.
And Stoops, who on Monday let Mrs. Glenn Spencer have access to his quarterback even though Mr. Glenn Spencer is dedicated to stopping Mayfield come Bedlam, seemed in no better mood when the subject was Baylor.
November can't get here fast enough.

It seems that Briles isn't well liked by the other coaches in the Big 12.
