MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept. 5, 2024) – The No. 1 West Virginia University men’s soccer team hits the road for the first time this season as the Mountaineers head to the west coast to take on California Baptist, Friday, Sept. 6. Kickoff from CBU Soccer Stadium in Riverside is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.

After starting the season with three straight wins, the Mountaineers sit atop the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, the first time that WVU has been ranked No. 1 in program history.
Graduate students Sergio Ors Navarro and Simon Carlson have been leading the offensive attack as they have combined for 22 points through three games. Ors Navarro is second in the country with six goals while Carlson has contributed with three goals and four assists. The duo has also swept the first two Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week awards this season.
The West Virginia defense has been strong to begin the year as well, having only allowed two goals while producing shutouts in the most recent two contests against Saint Francis and George Washington. The Mountaineers only allowed three shots in the last two games, none of which were on target.
California Baptist is 1-0-2 on the season with a win over CSU Bakersfield and two scoreless draws at American and No. 6 North Carolina. The Lancers were picked second in the WAC preseason poll and are coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
Four different players have scored a goal for CBU with two others collecting assists. Hugo Do Rego has made 19 saves while allowing just one goal through three games this season.
