Those who criticized Mullen's offense.....what about today's?

No it isn't.

Stupid comment

There was no "innovative" offense. We had 600 yards simply because we were able to fly by their CB's and catch 4 long balls. I saw dive, read option, screen, and bomb. Those were the plays. Oh, but that was against YSU....well.....same thing last week....last year....and well, since we lost Geno, Stedman, and Tavon.

Last week they ran all over Missouri.

This week Howard passed for 389 & 5 TDs.

2 wins. Neither were really in doubt.

What else is there?

Or they could have went all out, gotten a key player hurt, and then what?

Sometimes getting out of a scrub game (like this) unscathed isn't such a bad thing

Dud! And no I didn't mean to say Dude!

Dud! The premise of your argument that is.

No offense to Jeff Mullen, but his 2nd half offense rarely left the locker room. The presnap motion did nothing in the 1st half either. He's at UNC Charlotte for a reason. Let's leave it at that.

Any comparisons of Jeff Mullen to Dana Holgorsen should be limited to blood types, zip codes, & choice of cars. There is no comparison in offensive statistics or results.

th
This offense is very, VERY boring......

The OP is just mad we didn't run the super, duper reverse flea flicker into a hail mary with the punter and kicker as tight ends...I get what he is saying.

Oklahoma State lost to their "Youngstown." Georgia almost lost to a "Youngstown" lite. It happens.

3 long bombs for TD pass touchdowns isn't "boring" either.

I would focus more on a defense that was not crisp, or aggressive and, on several occasions, the defender waited 5 yards for the ballcarrier to get to him, then did NOT bring the ballcarrier down.

I gave the team a B against Missouri. I give WVU a C- against Youngstown.

They just didn't show the snap, crackle and pop that the Mountaineers exhibited against Missouri. This is a great teaching moment for the coaching staff, and they have two weeks to drill it into their heads: You cannot give less than your best against ANY opponent.

At least WVU is 2-0. Only 4 of the 10 Big 12 teams haven't lost yet, and Texas Tech still is playing and might shrink the unbeaten number to 3.

M anhandled Missouri, 26-11

O rdinary against Youngstown, 38-21

U nnerve BYU

N euter Kansas State

T rample Texas Tech

A nnihilate TCU

I mpale Oklahoma State

Yeah, let's open up the entire playbook (when it's not needed) so future opponents can have everything on film.....................

We're 2-0 without another major injury, some good teaching points for exposed weaknesses, an offense that has shown the ability to run and pass and a bye week to prep for byu. Life is good in "almost heaven."

654 total yards. Next.

OK, we got the yards. I'll eat my crow. However, there will be games where our WR's aren't able to fly past the DB's and rack up the yards. That helped to net those yards yesterday.....just saying. When this doesn't happen, will we have other options in the playbook?

Yeah I hate 650+ yards.

The yardage isn't the problem its the amount of points being scored per yard gained. 650+ yards gained and only 38 points is very inefficient. Michigan had 447 yards and 51 points. Wisconsin gained 586 and put up 54 points. Texas tech had 612 yards and 55 points and ASU had 652 yards and 68 points. Most teams that scored more than 38 points yesterday probably didn't have anywhere close to 650 yards of total offense.

Don't include Texas Tech and ASU in your example. That game had no defense at all. Seriously there are video games that tackle and play better D.

Texas tech and ASU are perfect examples teams with no defense and all offense. Any time you have over 600 yards in offense you should have point totals in at least the mid 50's. Our game wasn't a defensive struggle we had over 600 yards they had over 400 that isn't exactly old school LSU vs Alabama. Alabama had 38 points yesterday with less than 500 yards.

I see what you're saying. Ignore the weakness of an opponent and focus on future opponents... kind of like a "pre-practice". Brilliant. Kind of like the Pitt game in 07 when Fraud was looking ahead to his first Michigan game. [thumbsup]

More like every time we play someone with a good defense....like K-State....who we should almost always beat, but never seem to be able to......[thumbsup]

KST always seems to aquire decent talent and there is the Snyder factor...I'm not sure we 'should almost always beat' them. These should be competitive games imo, unfortunately with the Mountaineers on the wrong end since conference realignment....

Over 600 yards is not enough. We must also be innovative . Should have ran some triple reverses., hook and ladder and muddle huddle.

You do realize that last year's offense averaged 480 yards per game (give or take a few).....and in 2009 under Mullen (replacing White and Slaton), the offense was averaging 430 yards per game.

Holgorsen is good enough for 1 extra first down per quarter.........

4 years out of 5, WVU has been in the top 25 of CFB total offense

Under Mullen? Not so much

Just can't wait for the offense to be given enough time to equate to 10 win seasons and major bowl games again.......

People are too impatient......it's only been 6 years.......;)

It boggles my mind how many stupid post are out there. WVU had 79 plays for 624 for a VERY boring 7.9 yards per play, with Howard throwing 5 TD passes 3 of which were bombs. WTF are you looking for? If you want to complain, look at the D which gave up long time killing drives and not the O that averaged almost 8 yards per play.

What has been wrong with our offense? Are you sure you understand football?

The 624 yards isn't the problem the fact that we only scored 38 points with that amount of yardage is. This has been a problem for years going back to the Stewart days.

Oh, you made this thread to complain about the coach, you should probably wait until we lose a game.

The offense didn't play great yesterday but they will get better and be fine. Gibson, Shorts, and White are absolute studs at WR.

I respect your opinion...and always have Colo...but I honestly think they shore up that D and combined with the fact that Dana doesn't feel to enamored with giving away plays for film we'll be okay....I suppose BYU will tell us an awful lot...why am I thinking this is a Maryland type of yardstick? To me it does..

I don't really take much out of playing FCS opponents i just feel for the last 7-8 years are performances on offense have been too inefficient at times. I don't believe in opening up the play book in these type of games but teams like Ole Miss, Miami, Texas, Pitt, Penn State, all had similar point totals and had much fewer total yards. I think we have perfect opportunity to crack the top 3 in the conference this year but to do this we have to be more efficient and this is a problem that goes back farther then yesterday.

Agreed this conference is ripe at this point for top 3...NO excuse at this juncture to not be at the top of the food chain...BYU is just massive...also KST...things are gonna get real important and I love it!

I think will play much better against Byu and I think will beat them. I also think will beat K state. The games that worry me the most are the Texas game I would be surprised if we won that game especially since its in Austin and the Texas tech game scares me more because its on the road.

Indeed...I feel your pain re: Texas (especially after that performance vs ND ).TT and that O is a challenge as usual....
